5 Days, 5 Apps, 5 DollarsOn our 5th Myztery ZOT we ‘ve decided to make a great offer — a $5 offer. The trick: These are great apps. Don’t ask what’s in the bundle. If you can risk $5, you’ll love it. WARNING: It’s a complete mystery. You’re taking a chance. Most people love these. Some can’t handle the pressure. Will you buy? or Will you break? |

July 13th, 2006 at 12:09 am
wow, sold out in 5 minutes… :)
July 13th, 2006 at 12:10 am
Sold out already. Ouch, I need to be quicker next time!
July 13th, 2006 at 12:11 am
If sold out that fast, then that is slack.
Offer more than 10 next time.
July 13th, 2006 at 12:12 am
Well, I guess I just squeezed in a hair after midnight, but I made it!
July 13th, 2006 at 12:17 am
So does this mean no more Maczots until next Tuesday?
July 13th, 2006 at 12:18 am
What’s that? Already sold out? Is this an error, or what happened here? The same was yesterday for the desktop shader, but I could still buy one. I suppose I do not really understand that Sould-Out thingy, probably … :-(
July 13th, 2006 at 12:19 am
Sold out already?! Doesn’t anyone go to sleep anymore so I can get in on these? ;)
July 13th, 2006 at 12:30 am
You can order now, looks like it was a bug. 8-/
July 13th, 2006 at 12:35 am
Sold :). Even though I’m between Macs atm!
July 13th, 2006 at 12:37 am
Ok, I’m in.
Everyone knows that AppZapper and HoudahSpot will be included. :)
Any idea of the other 3 Apps?
Will the price go up every day?
July 13th, 2006 at 12:43 am
I am in
July 13th, 2006 at 12:43 am
Hey macZOT,
Is it $5 for each application, or $5 for the whole bundle?
Will you reveal an application each day?
Will the price increase?
Please detail the deal…
July 13th, 2006 at 12:51 am
Done and Done. For $5 how could I not? Now the hard part, the wait begins.
July 13th, 2006 at 12:55 am
I’m in regardless, but more details would be great.
I’m excited!!!
July 13th, 2006 at 1:31 am
Woo-Hoo!
I’m crossing my fingers that either a) I don’t own any of these,
or b) If I do, it’s an app my parents would love. (I’m slowly getting them to enjoy their Mac.) games, basically. They’re retired.
Thank YOU (in advance) MACZOT!
July 13th, 2006 at 1:36 am
The text implies that it’s five bucks for the bundle.
July 13th, 2006 at 1:54 am
will you guys be revealing one app a day? I hope so….:) Though I alreday purchased mine…..
July 13th, 2006 at 2:07 am
Will there be any apps included that were alreay featured on MacZot? I don’t need another AppZapper and the like. Also, will apps be revealed each day? Will the price increase per day?
July 13th, 2006 at 2:31 am
AppZapper, HoudahSpot, CastLife and iClip free version… plus maybe a game. But everything for only 5$.
July 13th, 2006 at 3:10 am
AppZapper is guaranteed to be in there.
July 13th, 2006 at 3:13 am
What’s the value/saving of the package?
July 13th, 2006 at 3:47 am
Actually I hope AppZapper is in there, I think I’m the only person who doesn’t have it!
July 13th, 2006 at 4:48 am
Watch it be five licenses of AppZapper.
July 13th, 2006 at 4:52 am
WTF…sold out again this early in the morning? If this keeps up, I’m done with this site. I can’t be on here in the whee hours of the morning to hopefully squeeze in, in just a few minutes for $5 shareware.
July 13th, 2006 at 5:01 am
You folks need to wait a bit, lately it seems it is registered as “sold out” after the new product is posted (its not). It always gets fixed the next morning. You can buy it now.
July 13th, 2006 at 5:20 am
Buy it now? Doesn’t look like it to me.
July 13th, 2006 at 5:48 am
Hopefully it’s something that I can really use and doesn’t include appzapper or houdahspot.
July 13th, 2006 at 6:19 am
I’m in. I think I have done every one so far, so why stop now…
July 13th, 2006 at 6:55 am
When will we find out today’s one?
July 13th, 2006 at 7:08 am
Its counting back from 5 days to 0, is this amount of 5 USD for 5 apps at one time?
July 13th, 2006 at 7:19 am
Could not wait …. just a terrible thing with that :D
Send the money via PayPal, let´s wait and see (and cry out of joy?)
July 13th, 2006 at 7:21 am
It’s 10:15am EST and I was able to purchase this pack… but I just found this site a week ago or so. It wouldn’t have taken my cash if it was sold out, right? And how do the multi-day packages work, in general? Do I return here every day, or do I receive codes, etc via email? TIA for helping out a newbie. :)
July 13th, 2006 at 7:27 am
I’m in but I have my doubts. These things always involve so many repeats.
July 13th, 2006 at 7:49 am
I’m in. If I get one new app that is useful it will be worth it. Though I’d prefer no repeats. Will any apps be revealed before the Myztery Zot is ended? I don’t know if I could handle the anxiety of not knowing for five days.
July 13th, 2006 at 7:50 am
you can’t go wrong for five bucks. I’ve purchased every mystery zot so far and this is the least worrisome for me. five bucks. hell i spend that on lunch every day.
July 13th, 2006 at 7:59 am
I hope it’s something new and doesn’t include appzapper or houdahspot as I’ve already acquired those through previous Maczot’s…
July 13th, 2006 at 8:26 am
Done. When do we find out what they are?
July 13th, 2006 at 8:37 am
What do you guys do with registration codes you acquired here on MacZot but don’t want? I got some from previous MysteryZots that I’m really not using at all, mainly by nature of the application (just not something I would use)…and I feel bad having them go to waste. Unfortunately, I don’t have that many friends who are Mac users. Anyone want them?
July 13th, 2006 at 8:40 am
Sign me up!
(I haven’t bought AppZapper in the last week!!!!!!)
Seriously, I said never again, but it’s only $5 … a coffee at starbucks at today’s exchange rates! (Or nearly!)
Now if DevonThinkPro is in there I will be cross, having bought it yesterday!
:)
July 13th, 2006 at 8:43 am
What the… I’m in too. Pay more for a Grande Latte each day.
July 13th, 2006 at 8:46 am
And I’m in too. Excellent. If Appzapper’s there I’ll be delighted. I’ve just used my last trial Zap.
Price for me in the UK £2.80 – definitely cheaper than Starbucks!!
July 13th, 2006 at 8:57 am
OK, I paid, now what?
July 13th, 2006 at 9:00 am
I bit. I bought.
I’ve only been here for about two weeks (since the free iClip) and have been waiting for a MysteryZOT. I can’t wait to see what’s inside.
Why do I feel like a giddy kid in a candy store?
July 13th, 2006 at 9:02 am
$1 per app? You can bet your sweet Mac-lovin’ ass(..terisk) I’m in! This’ll be my 3rd MyzteryZOT, and they haven’t disappointed yet.
Looking forward to the reveal! :D
July 13th, 2006 at 9:21 am
So is it $5.00 per day or a one time $5.00 payment. I can’t tell.
July 13th, 2006 at 9:26 am
WOW, listed on macbytes.com! I’ll buy my copies of AppZapper, HowdahSpot, iClip and two other mystery apps! (According to popular consensus… ;))
And looking forward to that CollaboZOT update coming later today! At last! YAY!
July 13th, 2006 at 9:29 am
YES, I am really in, got a mail from the support……
Just few days away :)
July 13th, 2006 at 9:43 am
Oh, for 5 bucks, I am in!
July 13th, 2006 at 9:45 am
Ha ha… I too was thinking of getting (another) AppZapper, iClip 3.7, HoudahSpot, and Docktop. Hmm… what might the fifth app be???
July 13th, 2006 at 10:29 am
I am in too.
:D
July 13th, 2006 at 10:56 am
I’m hoping for Photoshop 9. In a *universal binary*.
July 13th, 2006 at 11:45 am
Hmm… I got a note thanking for ordering this MacZOT even though I didn’t buy it yet… Are they psychic? Or did I get it free for mentioning macbytes first? Or was it a mistake? Hmm….
July 13th, 2006 at 11:45 am
Well, since I dropped my MacMag subscriptions, I sorta miss a little mystery ;-).
I used to get MacAddict for the last few years, but have been gradually dissatisfied with their discs and content. The last part is the saddest of course, because I liked their format so much — not a big fan of the segmented article on page 55 (MacWorld).
Anyhow, looking forward to the little/big surprises!
July 13th, 2006 at 12:37 pm
Hey Zot,
Please clarify. Is it $5 for five apps? or $5 each day for one app?
July 13th, 2006 at 12:47 pm
So when am I going to get my apps?
July 13th, 2006 at 12:59 pm
$5 for 5, from what I understand.
I don’t even own my Mac yet (switching middle fo next month when my financial aid check comes in), but I’ve already picked up iClip for free from a while back, and I nabbed DeskShade the other day, too. The only app I could possibly get double on at this point is iClip, which doesn’t bother me one bit (I’ll give the other license to my wife when she gets her MBP). $5 was an easy expenditure for me.
July 13th, 2006 at 1:33 pm
I’m In, Can’t resist the call of the myestery Box :P
Any idea when the First app will be avaible?
Thanks!
July 13th, 2006 at 1:42 pm
I’ll assume that leaving a comment to say I’d buy that is how one gets in line and commits themselves to buying the lot (since it isn’t explained expressly from what I can see…)?
Then count me in, or post some actual instructions…
July 13th, 2006 at 3:44 pm
Thursday: Aperture
Friday: Shake
Saturday: Logic Pro
Sunday: Final Cut Studio
Monday: OS X Server 10.4 unlimited
wasn’t that hard :-D
maybe it also just all apps from FinalCut Studio spread over the 5 days….
and also maybe it’s something completly different :-D
July 13th, 2006 at 4:52 pm
i get the impression that a comment made on this page triggers an email response.
I’m also hoping it’s not DevonThink Pro or DevonAgent, because I just picked up the infoworker’s bundle :D
July 13th, 2006 at 6:29 pm
gb – you have to go to the homepage http://www.maczot.com and click the “buy” button there.
I’m in!
July 13th, 2006 at 6:34 pm
Count me in. So mysterious. And how do we pay for this stuff? I love the lack of any instruction on how to pay you guys… heh.
July 13th, 2006 at 7:18 pm
Leaving a comment has nothing to do with getting in on the MyzteryZOT. You have to buy it, like with every other thing you get from here (that’s not free).
When I got on my computer this morning and made my way over here, I thought it was sold out too.. but after fiddling around a bit, I cleared my browser’s cookies for macZOT and revisited http://www.maczot.com and lo and behold- there was a blue “Buy” button on the page.
Give that a shot and see if it helps anyone else.
Can’t wait! This is my first MyzteryZOT and hope I get some good stuff.
July 13th, 2006 at 7:50 pm
ROFL!!! Thanks guys, great to see everyone has such a great sense of humor. :) Like it’s been said before, at 5 bucks how can you go wrong?
July 13th, 2006 at 10:57 pm
Aylin, I might be interested in some licenses you are not using :)
July 13th, 2006 at 11:36 pm
Dang.
I’d better set up that Paypal account!
July 14th, 2006 at 12:45 am
Hmm… I was hoping to see one of the five mysteries revealed today. Seems we all got to wait til… when…. Tuesday? Even though I got in on the deal… I will break….can’t stand the curiosity… worse than waiting for the new “Lost†season.
July 14th, 2006 at 4:48 am
Wow, is it not being revealed one at a time? Dude I should of bought this Monday.
July 14th, 2006 at 5:07 am
gb: I was as confused as you. There’s no buy link on thi page! You need to go to http://www.maczot.com (notice you are now in /discuss). That’s where you buy. Terrible Design…
July 14th, 2006 at 6:09 am
Hey! What happened to revealing an app every day?! I bought it (seems hard to go wrong…) already, but really was hoping to learn 1/5 of what I got today :-)
July 14th, 2006 at 6:36 am
The association with 5 apps and 5 days seems a bit pointless if you don’t release one a day :|.
July 14th, 2006 at 6:52 am
Should go up $5 each day you don’t buy, and reval one each day and fullfill one a day – I think it’d help keep up in the long run – but for $5 I’ll just sit here waiting for the final reveal.
July 14th, 2006 at 7:02 am
Will you reveal the total savings in this package?
July 14th, 2006 at 7:50 am
gb > go to the main page. Click ‘Buy’. Leaving a comment here does nothing towards purchasing anything, people just like to let others know when they’ve joined the bandwagon… it’s a community thing.
Everyone >
As to the reveal… they never mentioned it so I’m there’s no reveal.
As to the price… $5, period. Not $5 per app. $5.
I think they’re getting annoyed with having to clarify these things 50 times when the main page states all the information you need.
$5 for 5 apps.. they’re a mystery. Click buy if you want them. That’s it! There’s no more information coming about these… just go post in your blogs and look at your porn for the next four days then come back to see what you’ve purchased.
July 14th, 2006 at 8:25 am
Here’s my wishlist:
Day 1: TextMate
Day 2: CSSEdit
Day 3: Delicious Library
Day 4: OmniWeb 5
Day 5: Mac OS X 1.5
OK, maybe that last one was a stretch.
July 14th, 2006 at 8:45 am
Easy now n0mmo,
I think part of the problem is how poorly they explain these things and part of the problem is this very poorly designed web site.
The first problem is how they explain it. The MysteryZOTs have always, as far as I’ve known, started off at a low price and each day the price goes up and a single app is revealed. Apparently, they are changing it this time.
A note to the ZOT guys, a single clear sentence “5 apps purchased anytime in the next 5 days will be only $5″ goes a long way to explaining the situation.
The second problem is this incredibly poorly designed web site. True, the designer is extremely hot, but this site needs work.
How do you buy anything? A VERY small button on the front page. If you miss it then you are screwed. I hate to say, it used to be even worse. They would hide the ‘buy’ button at the bottom and sometimes at the bottom right.
How do you get back to the main page? The ‘Home’ button at the top of every website. Wait, NO ‘home’ button here. The ‘MacZOT’ home button at the top goes to the discussion page that is laid out EXACTLY like the home page EXCEPT there is no ‘buy’ button. INCREDIBLY poor design. So after clicking back and forth TRYING to give their money to MacZOT, people eventually have to either go back and use their main bookmark or manually edit the url in the address bar. Until someone learns the non-standard behavior of this website, it is a big hassle.
It is very easy to get stuck in the discussion loop on this site and never see the ‘buy’ button. Hell, the button at the top is even listed as ‘MacZOT!’ but it doesn’t go to the main page. I can understand how someone new here can spend 5 minutes here trying to purchase a product but never see the buy button.
Next is learning anything about the program being offered. 99% of the time the only link offered is the download link. So you have to copy the download url, enter it into the address bar, and then edit it to get to the web page. I see the last two days, MacZOT has included links to the developer’s page and not just download links. I hope that trend continues.
This is a cool site but they do an incredibly poor job of explaining these MysteryZOTs. Couple that with a very confusing and poorly designed web site, I can easily see how people get confused here.
July 14th, 2006 at 9:50 am
I found mZ during the HoudahSpot giveaway, mentioned on thinkmac.net.
Dave is right. Figuring out the navigation wasn’t easy. I tried to get some of the apps on the list for the mZ price, but obviously that couldn’t happen. The concept wasn’t clear, but I finally got it.
So far I have HoudahSpot, old iClip, Dockstar (full price), Docktop (full price), Deskshade, and SizzleKeys Pro.
HS doesn’t do much for me, and I have the widget version of iClip Lite (cool new interface). Not having tried AppZapper, I don’t know what it offers compared to just dragging an app to the trash. (I’d hate to have it toss bits of *other* apps!)
I didn’t know that these Mystery Zots included repeats. Now if pzizz was one of these five apps, I’d be totally psyched! But getting HS and the old iClip would be disappointing.
The “5 Days, 5 Apps, $5″ thing seems pretty clear. Stringing MysteryZots out over five days means five days without having to find new apps for five days. It’s probably not easy to find authors who’ll “give away” some of their better shareware for even less than they’re selling it for.
How many of the registrations for some of these apps are tied to our name or e-mail? I’ll give duplicates away, but if they have to be registered to me, some people might think I was abusing the license.
Anyway, it’s just five bucks. I have *wasted* much more.
July 14th, 2006 at 10:27 am
I think part of the very nature of the MysteryZOT is that you dont always know how it works. I feel there have been some ZOT! comments to that effect in the past.
July 14th, 2006 at 11:25 am
I want them to give us VisualHub. I’d pay 5 bucks just for that… I’ve been using the demo, and it’s a great program. Needless to say, I’ve already bought this 5 app deal; I just really hope one of those apps is VisualHub.
July 14th, 2006 at 12:08 pm
If it’s going to stay at $5 I would assume the apps will not be a big deal.
July 14th, 2006 at 12:17 pm
Or perhaps that’s what they want you to think. ;)
July 14th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
Hmm it being friday, i’d expect the thursday app at least to be revealed, otherwhise, what’s the use of putting the names of the days above the apps?
July 14th, 2006 at 1:36 pm
“True, the designer is extremely hot, but this site needs work.”
the designer is hot? how do you know?
July 14th, 2006 at 4:59 pm
Here’s my latest MyzteryZot theory. The reason they are not revealing a Zot each day is because they don’t know what the apps will be yet. If 3000 people jump in, the Zot can go to developers and say, “Hey we have $15000 bucks to spread out for 5 apps! Want in on the money?” The more people who get in, the better the apps.
Well, it’s a theory.
July 14th, 2006 at 5:55 pm
Good theory edmb!
July 14th, 2006 at 5:59 pm
I earnestly hope edmb is correct (eh-hem, macZOT!)
July 14th, 2006 at 6:41 pm
I’d like to second basically everything Dave said. It seems like every other ZOT has about a zillion people in the comments going, “Can someone explain what exactly the deal is here?”
MacZOT is a great site but it badly needs a shot of clarity.
And stainboy, there’s a link to the designer’s website at the bottom of the page.
July 14th, 2006 at 6:43 pm
Also, I expected that the apps would be revealed at the rate of one per day, but apparently that’s not the case. Am I right?
July 14th, 2006 at 7:06 pm
What is today’s app then. Page update…..please.
July 14th, 2006 at 7:35 pm
@the valrus
where is this link to the designer’s website that you speak of?
July 14th, 2006 at 8:01 pm
$5? I’m in. And what’s this “Sold out” stuff? I’ve never seen anything sold out, except once when there was a limited number (I joined relatively recently, though, and I rarely check in the mornings as I have a job really early). What browser are you using? There could be a bug in that portion, however unlikely that may be.
By the looks of the email I received when I bought it, they’ll reveal them all in 5 days (well, now 4). This is helped along by the fact that it’s still just 5 big question marks.
@Dave up there: no buy button? The discussion is laid out exactly the same as the homepage? Bull. Yes, the MacZOT! button should go to the main page, but it’s mind-blowingly easy to just delete the “/discuss” part of the address and hit enter. And the “buy” button isn’t that hard to see, it’s the only blue part of the entire main portion of the page. Would you rather have a gigantic flashing GIF monstrosity? I prefer small and simple.
I agree 100% that the site needs work, and I’ve emailed my 2cents worth of suggestions already.
I will say, however, that what this Zot is is perfectly clear to me, and it was from the very first read-through. $5 for a bundle of 5 apps.
Is it REALLY that necessary to know more? Either you buy it or you don’t, in which case you either get the apps or you don’t.
July 14th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
I paid like 5 minutes ago but I didn’t see any apps available for me to download. What’s going on?
July 14th, 2006 at 9:58 pm
Develove,
They won’t be available till like Tuesday or late Monday night. Not until its over will you know what you got.
July 15th, 2006 at 12:54 am
Dave > I’ve been in the last three Zots and only one of them included a reveal as far as I can recall.
Develove > you need to wait until the end of the 5 days.
With such a low price and no stated increase over time I can see why they’d leave it a mystery the whole way through, otherwise everyone would just wait to see the app that’s worth the $5 for them.
They also didn’t state “no repeats” and “no widgets”.. .I think they’re leaving it all open ended for a reason.. but for $5 do you really care?
July 15th, 2006 at 12:54 am
Develove, it wouldn’t be much of a ‘mystery’ if folk who bought the bundle received the apps ahead of Tuesday and then posted what they are here, would it? I’d relax and sit tight till then. I’m sure the apps we’ve purchased will be available then.
July 15th, 2006 at 2:03 am
I’m in! I really hope AppZapper is in this thing – I’ve not got it yet!
July 15th, 2006 at 5:32 am
@everyone who thinks like Develove:
Here’s the email I got when I purchased it:
{
Thanks for your order of MyzteryZOT 5.
It’s a 5 day event. And, it’s a Myztery. So, please be patient with
the process. We’ll handle all the orders on Tuesday after it’s over.
If you’re receiving this email, we’ve received your order.
}
That help?
July 15th, 2006 at 7:44 am
I agree with Christian. VisualHub is great!
July 15th, 2006 at 8:21 am
Thanks mackid.
July 15th, 2006 at 8:35 am
I think it’s going to be iTunes, Firefox, Yahoo! Messenger, a copy of the Linux kernel, and the latest WebKit nightly build.
July 15th, 2006 at 8:59 am
Hmmm, so the case of what I’ve bought already will stay until Tuesday??
BTW What’s with this SOLD OUT Thingy I didn’t have any problems with putting my order.
July 15th, 2006 at 10:22 am
Thank you all for the explanations. I will just wait then.
BTW, I didn’t receive the email Groxx posted. Will that be a problem or is it that they don’t work on weekends ;-)
July 15th, 2006 at 10:29 am
BTW, my wishlist:
Mac OS X 10.5
iLife ’07
iWork ’07
Aperture 2.0
Adobe CS 3
LOL!
Seriously, I would be very glad if they have:
AppZapper (tried it and loved it, haven’t bought yet)
Parallels Desktop for Mac (Still using trial version, on the fence of buying it)
NetNewsWire (using the Lite version)
Transmit (using Fetch now)
Superduper! (using SilverKeeper now but it’s not Universal Binary)
July 15th, 2006 at 1:07 pm
w00t! Discovered MacZot! during the free iClip. Fantastic fun to check this site each day and to discover such a cool idea such as the “MysteryZOT 5″ is FAB! I’ve been caught, hooked, and reeled in!
July 15th, 2006 at 7:02 pm
Oooh! A little more info on the bundle! http://phillryu.com/2006/07/15/a-quickie-mysteryzot-made-a-little-less-mysterious/
But the suspense is killing me. :-(
July 15th, 2006 at 7:03 pm
Phill Ryu has said on his website that he knows MacZot’s owner and that:
“1. One app is an advertiser on this site. Bundle’s already sounding good huh?
2. One pretty much fully replaced an Apple application and piece of hardware for me.
3. One is a great addition to your iLife and Apple’s iWeb, for all you emerging stars out there.
4. One’s a great tool and cheat sheet for an ever more international world.
5. One is a slick, indispensible tool for all you web developers out there.”
1. Is either AppZapper, Candybar, Awaken, or RapidWeaver
2. I don’t know
3. CastEasy? iVideo? PodJuicer?
4. I don’t know.
5. CSSEdit? TextMate?
July 15th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
I should probably add 1. could also be iClip 4.

Nell, if you are interested, shoot me an e-mail (aylin dot oglu at gmail dot com) and I’ll let you know which licenses I’m not using. =)

Is there anyway to specify that the email address passed on for registration should always be that of the account, not the paypal account?
as due to various things, I’m using a different email address to my paypal account, and can not add it to the account.
July 16th, 2006 at 5:27 am
Aylin, I am also interested! If you don’t mind, I’m going to send you an email pretty soon as well.

Ok, I think I will share my 2 cents here.
I agree with many of you (Dave) when you say this site is fun, yet has a bad design structure.
Up to this day it is still is annoying me that there is no home button!
Also, I am curious as to how they set these games up? When Collabozot was announced, I jumped in. I posted my email, and offered anyone to join my team. I thought only 4 or 5 people would email me, but I received lots of email requests to join my team for 4 days. After I had a huge team, MacZot emails me and tells me that the teams are only supposed to have 5 players. What!!! Now you tell us.
Anyway, in less than 4 hours, I figured out a way to not only divide our 100+ team into 5 per team, but also manage the game in ways where they can post clues, hints, questions, and answers without having to worry about others reading it (forum). I noticed MacZot was having trouble managing all the players, so I offered my forum, and they never emailed me back. After the game was over, I pretty much could see who won out of the teams on our forum, but with MacZot… we have no clue yet. I understand that this was a new thing for them, but why not use some help? The forum is now a mac community, and we have a section for MacZot (Click on my name to check it out), but I still think that they could use some help. This game was so crazy, and out of control, that many MacZot fans gave up on MacZot. I can see MacZot growing, but what are you guys up to back there?
The next big thing that needs to be looked at, is their communication! I have basically figured out everything they said in their instructions, but as far as I know, the mystery should be in the game, not the game and on the instructions how to play.
The design is ok, but for something like this, I thought it would be better. Something that would compete with some of the high end CSS sites :)

Oh, and one more thing.
Many of our forum members have copies of software that they have received from MacZot (or elsewhere). We are planning on making some more fun contests and things under our current main one (60gig iPod) where we can give out our duplicate software.
If you have more than one copy of one or more applications, feel free to join our forum, and send me a PM (private message) with a list of the apps you have duplicates of.

er.. Sorry to do the newbie thing as well but I got the bit about having to wait till Tuesday to receive the link but like Develove I didn’t get an email like Groxx posted. Is that a problem?

I paid for the mysteryzot on Friday, July 14, 2006. My paypal account (actually my wife’s) was charged, but I have not received any confirmation from maczot. Should I have received some confirmation of my order?
July 16th, 2006 at 3:55 pm
Hm… can’t wait!
I paid, got the pay pal confirmation, but didn’t get a MacZot confirmation. Should I worry?

I think I missed something…what forum are you referring to Danny?
Thanks,

First timer here so go easy. After I purchase, then what? I received my email from PayPal but nothing else.
July 17th, 2006 at 7:19 am
If there are duplicates, I wish there were a way to give the software to someone but not under my name. I would love to give CastLife to a friend and not feel like I was cheating the developer out of $10 (well, at least the $1 I’ll be paying if it’s in this Zot, but you know what I mean). If the guesses I’ve been hearing are correct, I already own 3 of them. Just a thought.
July 17th, 2006 at 9:24 am
hello i’ve bought thursday and i know not now what are there apps when can i know that ?
July 17th, 2006 at 9:50 am
It’s monday! Hello?
July 17th, 2006 at 9:51 am
I too have many duplicates… AppZapper anybody? It’s ridiculous. And if the hints are any indication I get yet another bundle of software I already own. While this can happen and is at my own risk to participate in these Myztery Zots I think there should be a note in future Myztery Zots whether an app was already featured on MacZot. Just that info, not when, not what… just let me know that I might purchase something I already own through MacZot or don’t need (if I haven’t bought it in the first place most likely I won’t find a use for it anyway).
MacZot is great!!! I have no problems understanding the rules of the game… and by tomorrow we’ll all be a lot smarter. It was fun while it lasted.

This MysteryZOT is so different from the past. No communication for 5 straight days. The only thing I don’t like on this one is that there is no incentive to buy early. I can still get in today at no different cost. Good for new people to the ZOT experience, boring for seasoned ZOTs.
Still, I have never been disappointed with a purchase…so no serious complaints, just an observation…

It almost seems like this MyzteryZOT is a chance for the site’s operator(s) to take a brief vacation :-)

Stephen Quirk, and gryphonent,
We could use you at the forum. We are currently setting something up (with the developers of different applications) to see if we can work something FUN out for those that have duplicates.
The more people that come over, the better chances we have of getting good deals with the developers.
ON ANOTHER NOTE:
gryphonent – I agree. It would be nice if they could set up a Database where they can keep track of who bought what. Then when there is an app on MacZot that we already bought… we get a special email that warns us, but does not effect others that did not purchase it.

gryphonent: I’d like an AppZapper license!
July 17th, 2006 at 11:34 am
An AppZapper license will be greatly appreciated by me too.
BTW, I might end up getting two if this app is included in those five mysterious apps.
July 17th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
When is the first day they reveal the first App? I thought that that was last thursday??? I am a little bit confused here.
July 17th, 2006 at 1:37 pm
I want an AppZapper license as well! I don’t really mind what we get – so long as there isn’t a cheesy typing tutor in the mix =/
Maybe something fun?? C’mon, what do you say maczot?
July 17th, 2006 at 2:17 pm
Hey, Danny –
Newbie here. What’s exactly the Collabozot and what’s the forum purpose?
July 17th, 2006 at 3:55 pm
I paid you guys five bucks, and haven’t been able to download any of the 5 mystery apps you offered. I want my stuff or my money back. I got no software, no email saying you’re sold out. No announcement of being sold out.
I give you $5, you give me 5 apps. That was the deal.
I gave you my money, give me my apps.
July 17th, 2006 at 5:25 pm
If you are concerned from macZot’s end if your purchase made it in, go to the “My Account” Link on the homepage, or click on my name… It shows all of your purchases to date and the info from PayPal to confirm. Just to help you rest easy!

Am I the only one who’s been thinking that this whole 5 day MysteryZot is just an excuse for the Zot team to disappear for an extra extended weekend without us getting wise to them!? Kind of like the web equivalent to stuffing your bed with pillows and dirty laundry so that, should they check on you during the night, your parents will think you’re still in bed and that you haven’t snuck out the window to party with your mates!
/pokes at MacZot with a stick: “hey, I know you’re faking it! You’re not fooling anyone!”

This is my first time participating in one of these and it has been fun. It took about an hour for me to decide to go ahead and “waste” the five bucks and I haven’t regretted it since. I don’t have high expectations for what the bundle will be but if I end up with even just one app that I find useful, I will be very happy.

The only other Zot I did was a mysteryzot. I caved. I have a friend who just got a Mac, so if I get dupes I can give them to him.

MJ,
The Collabozot is a game that MacZot did, and one was to have teams of 5. I made the forum to help seperate those teams.. and it went very well. Now that the game is over, the forum grew to be a huge mac community. I partnered up with other mac companies, and we are planning to give out big prizes like ipods, Macbooks (Next months prize), mac minis, iMacs, etc.
