I don’t want to be picky but doesn’t the (more expensive) Path Finder offer tabs too

  2. Jan Says:

I don’t think I’ll be buying this until I see what Leopard brings…

I’ve been seeing this one for a while and have been interested. Might bite at this price, but want to ask for feedback from anyone who’s been using it for a while… A deal at this price?

They’re not claiming to be the _only_ tabbed file browser. They’re claiming to have been the _first_ Mac file browser with tabs.

This app got 2 stars on VersionTracker.com in February: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13237

  8. Paul Levine Says:

    Hi Wayne,

The last rating on versiontracker.com that was less than three stars for RAGE Macintosh Explorer was from 2003. Since then we have added so much including tabbed file browsing, new file views that are not available in any other file browser such as compact list view which maximizes the number of files/folders you can see on screen, file banks for treating multiple files as one, and filter based file browsing which lets you filter out files you do not want to see.

In fact, RAGE Macintosh Explorer has been almost entirely re-written to provide much faster file browsing, which was the number one complaint that resulted in negative ratings. Feel free to try out the latest version for yourself to see whether or not it meets your expectations.

This looks like Path Finder at a much better price. I think I’ll give it a ZOT!

  10. gryphonent Says:

    I’m happy using PathFinder…

  11. Jefe Says:

Downloaded it and played around.. It’s a very neat app, no doubt. I think Apple could learn a lot from it.

Still, I don’t see myself ever using anything other than the built-in finder. I was hoping this just somehow modifed Finder to give you some upgraded features.

  12. Eniregnat Says:

I was skeptical, but I’m sold.

I only have a 12″ PB, so space is an issue. I hate the Dock, so I replaced it with Bull’s-eye and Overflow (from a Zot). I use the finder extensive, and I like tabbed browsing. For 9 bucks, it’s worth it for me. The ability to color alternate rows in a contrasting color is great for those with perceptual disabilities.

As others have noted, perhaps it’s time for a mystery zot (that doesn’t include this one).

  13. SoftwareJunkie Says:

Baffles me that anybody would be foolish enough to critique an app without actually *using* it first. Not bright at all.

Versriontracker reviews are just as bad. One in ten are coherent.
