ATTENTION WEBMASTERS: Monitor websites and servers for changes or failures

“…a feature-rich tool that’s ideal for Webmasters who need to monitor a variety of Internet services.”
– Matt Vance, Macworld

Dejal Simon is the essential site monitoring tool for Mac OS X. It checks servers for changes or failures, and notifies you via e-mail, sound, speech, or other means. You can use it to track updated sites, and to alert you when an important server goes down or recovers. Developed in Cocoa, it is a native Mac OS X application with an intuitive and attractive interface.

Simon is very versatile. It can be used to monitor your own website and servers, track your clients’ servers, communicate on arbitrary ports, run custom scripts for monitoring and notifications, and much more.

“Simon constantly monitors the content of critical pages and shows me the changes that have been made. Quality control is very important to me: usability, reliability, design, that’s what people pay me for! In Simon I also find those qualities — and this feels good to me. … Simon adds another reliable and highly customizable layer of control and feedback! I also appreciate the fast response when contacting Dejal. The developer knows what he’s talking about!”

- Holger Hubbs, web/print/information design, unimpossible.net

Central to Simon is the Monitor window. It enables you to see at a glance the current status of all of your monitored websites, servers, and applications. In addition to a colorful status icon and up-time percentage, the tests table displays how long ago the last change and failure occurred, and when the next check will occur. But that’s not all. This window also displays further statistics about the tests, and tables listing recent checks (including the check duration and a bar chart), changes (including the text that changed), failures (including the error description), and notifications (that can occur for changes, failures, and recoveries).

“I searched high and low for a product to monitor my server, and Simon was the only product that worked flawlessly. Simon is also great at monitoring changes on other sites; handy if you want to be the first to see new content on seldom updated pages.”

- Gord Lacey, Owner, TVShowsOnDVD.com

The ZOT price is offered for the ENTERPRISE LICENSE of Simon which retails for $195.00. This allows an unlimited number of tests – perfect for webmasters and professionals. If you have more modest needs, check out the Basic or Standard licenses.

omg. *crosses fingers and hopes for nextZot*

  2. Walker Argendeli Says:

Well, I bought this when the basic version was on a little while ago. I must not have been thinking that day, because I need to do way more than monitor just a few sites. Then, this comes on, oddly familiar. I’m going to hope for NextZOT, because money around here is not flowing abundant. I’ll also have to check out Server Sirern by Foggy Noggin.

  3. bandorn Says:

As odd as this sounds, what’s up with the corporate name? Dejal is a transliteration for the Arabic word for the anti-christ.. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dajjal)

    Spooky

Well, I didn’t win (congratulations, Mary!) and I can’t afford it otherwise (even with the zotgeist discount), but I thought I’d add that those of you who may be hesitant to hand over what is a considerably large sum of money for shareware (as worthy of it as it may be) to an indie Mac dev should rest assured that David’s a great guy. I bought Caboodle some time ago, even though I didn’t really need it, based solely on how responsive, courteous, professional, and open to user feedback he is. I think such developers definitely deserve our support, and I hope that helps to alleviate any concerns you may have in that regard.

  5. David Sinclair Says:

    Hi all.

bandorn: interesting, I hadn’t heard of Dajjal before. The name Dejal comes from my former initials, D.J.L, with vowels added to be pronounceable (as DEE-JILL). My wife and I both adopted a new surname when we got married. See http://www.dejal.com/faq/general/pronounce for more info.

justG: Thank you for the kind words.

If anyone has any questions about Dejal or Simon, I’d be happy to answer them here, on the Dejal forums, or via email.

Oh and Mary (today’s nextzot winner), if this license is of no use to you, I’m sure David will give his blessing should you wish to legally transfer it to someone else. *wink wink* *nudge nudge* =]
