Programmers text editor

No fuzz, all the frills

ForgEdit is a programmers text editor, period. It brings all the things you need together in one neat package. You don’t have to switch between applications. Better yet, you don’t have to read the manual either.

Features include: tabbed editing, key bindings to everything, ftp/sftp support, easy-to-create-and-modify modes, bookmarks, extensive applescript support, and a lot more.
ForgEdit is your friend

The prime reason to use ForgEdit is its user friendliness, not only in terms of ease-of-use, but also in terms of being configurable and comprehensive. Whenever you use ForgEdit, you should always feel perfectly ‘at home’.

Kudos for best app name! Awesome!

I ain’t a programmer, but this looks very interesting and worth a look for those geekier than me.

  2. dekay Says:

How does this stack up against my alltimefavorite editor, TextMate?

  3. Walker Argendeli Says:

TestMate is an incredible editor. Nevertheless, I still own licenses to a variety of other apps, just so that I always have choice and can use what fits a certain project, and so that I can support indie developers. I’m going to try this out, but can someone definitely post a comparison of this with textmate and maybe other programming text editors.

    Thanks

  4. Lisa K. Says:

Have a happy April 1st and please spend my penny wisely! ;-)

  5. Lisa K. Says:

Whoa, you guys weren’t kidding. That’s one sweet lime green Escalade! But how am I supposed to drive it out of my bedroom?!

  6. Robin S. Says:

Lisa, don’t forget, you can’t drive it till you get your license by email. It will be sent by the developer within 24 hours. ;-)

As for ForgEdit, I have always looked at the name and read it as forge-edit. All of a sudden today, I got it! Clever indeed. In fact, I’m going to try the application just because it is so clever.

This is truly a remarkable day, new car, new higher level of intelligence … wow.

  7. atticusrex Says:

Wow, like now that I spent that penny for the new Caddy SUV I can’t afford the gas to fill’er up!

Hmmm, guess it’ll have to become the worlds heaviest and largest paperweight.

But I think it’s almost too much bling for my now crushed desk, thank god I grabbed the laptop before the Caddy appeared.

Since i can’t fill’er up and now my office is uninhabitable can I have my penny back, I was wanting 1 gumball from my daughter’s gumball bank for lunch.

  8. Tommy Says:

One great feature of ForgEdit is that if you select multiple lines and then hit the Tab key, it’ll indent all the lines, not replace the lines with a Tab. Shift-Tab moves them back out.

This is a surprisingly difficult feature to find in a Mac text editor. Many can do it, but have a different key combination for it.

  9. Tommy Says:

On the other hand, wrapped lines don’t follow the indent, which is a bummer.

Or, if there’s a preference setting for ti, I didn’t find it.

  10. Nice Tryer Says:

I’m reading it as “forget it”. To me, I must say that the name is rather misfortunate.

  11. Eric Says:

ForgeEdit is a really remarkable little editor. It does not have all the features of textMate, but is definitely on it’s way to kicking textMate’s rear. Its very usable and the developer is on the ball when it comes to accepting suggestions and changes. I would say ForgeEdit could be anything you want it to be. I had the enjoyment of using this while in beta and even then it was fairly stable. ForgeEdit will be new “Hot Markup Editor” especially with the integrated FTP connectivity much like TextPad for Windows.
