Darn, too bad this wasn’t a weekend Zot. I hope everyone gets a chance to try it, because it’s gooooood. Don’t let the name fool you; it’s not just for photo albums and slideshows. If you need to use a template, you’ve got lots of choices. If you want to start with a template and then make it more your own, that’s EASY to do. If you want to design your site from scratch, that’s also EASY to do. You don’t have to go searching for the theme in your Applications Support folder and duplicate it and go into the code just to change the font, for cryin’ out loud.

If you’re thinking of buying Rapidweaver at twice the price and it’s additional plug-ins for even more $$$, you really should take Shutterbug out for a spin. Even if you already have a website created in something else and you only want to use Shutterbug to create a store or some photo galleries, it’s more than worth $23.95. Heck, it’s more than worth $39.95.

As with any application, there are still some things that need work, e.g., still no undo (cmd+z), and I don’t understand why, but the support is great, the forum is very active, and this price is absolutely crazy. You can check out their Showcase Sites to see some examples of websites built with Shutterbug.

Sorry, just wanted to say one more thing. When you first open Shutterbug, it looks kind of like Rapidweaver and Sandvox in the Content area. Be sure to go into the Layout area, though, because once your text and/or photos are put into the Content area, you can make all kinds of WYSIWYG changes in Layout, dragging things around, adding more items, inserting text blocks or HTML code. Click on everything, or you might miss a feature.

Not that I ‘need’ another website creation program, but EVERYthing I’ve read about this online is POSITIVE:

    Reference:
“My favorite applications are the ones that you can begin using immediately without any prior knowledge of the program or interface. With ShutterBug, I was able to set up and publish a practice web site to my .Mac account in minutes without any reference to the online help or manual. It is completely intuitive and the folks at XtraLean have obviously put a lot of thought into optimizing the interface.”
    from http://www.electronista.com/reviews/shutterbug.html

“Dramatic improvements have also been made to the HTML output of ShutterBug sites to produce faster and smoother slideshows, as well as to offer the option of adding the popular and elegant LightBox script to selected pages. This new HTML output utilizes the latest browser technology while still maintaining backward compatibility with older browser versions. ShutterBug will automatically update existing sites with the optimized and enhanced HTML output the next time users export their sites with V2.3.”
    from http://www.graphic-design.com/news/2007/WYSIWYG_website.html

“Quick site creation; 25 Web site themes included; automatic Web slide-show creation; photo editing and annotating features. Rated 4 out of 5 MICE!”
    from http://www.macworld.com/article/50885/2006/05/shutterbug2.html#commentsjump

And I’m afraid that comment about ‘ease of use w/o prior knowledge’ (above) is just too tempting for me not to pick this one up while it’s a bargain!

Thanks for the helpful comments about ShutterBug, which I just purchased. If I might add something potentially noteworthy here, based on my very positive experience with XtraLean Software’s ImageWell, this is a development team truly worth supporting.
