What is DVDRemaster?

DVDRemaster is an application which recompresses large DVDs so they can be burned on a standard DVD or converts them so they can be watched on your video iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone, Apple TV and many others. DVDRemaster accommodates both novices and experts with its simple but yet powerful interface. It can either copy an entire DVD and keep all tracks, copy only the main feature or copy only selected audio and video tracks.

DVD backup made easy

DVD backup made easy

From viewing your movies to selecting the languages you wish to keep and burning the final backup DVD, everything is built into a simple but yet powerful interface.

Recompress with ease

Recompress with ease

No need to worry about complicated settings; everything is summarized into easy to use presets. Simply select a destination device and you are ready to go.

Recompress with ease

Convert for video players

Watching your favorite movies and shows on the road using your video iPod, iPod Touch and iPhone or enjoying them at home on your Apple TV has never been easier.

What’s new in 5.x?

Automatically include movie information

Easily locate and classify movies in your library using titles, genres and many others. Finding the movie you are looking for is now a piece of cake.

Prepare and execute multiple conversions

Never run out of movies to watch again. Prepare several conversion tasks ahead of time and let DVDRemaster execute them without supervision.

Easily navigate between chapters

It is easier than ever to find scenes in a movie on your iPod, iPod Touch or iPhone. Thanks to the new chapter markers, you can jump from one chapter to another.

How does it work?

Recompressing a DVD

DVDRemaster can work in two modes. It can either preserve all tracks (including menus, multiangle, commentaries, other languages, etc.) or work in movie only mode where everything but the main feature is discarded, thus leaving more space for the main movie and yielding a better quality of image. Advanced users will appreciate that the Pro version lets them choose exactly which video and audio tracks to keep or to discard.

DVDRemaster comes with Fairmount which is a free companion tool that allows on-the-fly decryption of DVDs. Once Fairmount is launched, making a backup of a DVD is as simple as dragging and dropping its VIDEO_TS folder somewhere on your hard disk. The resulting copy will be decrypted as it is copied and will be ready for archival.

Converting to iPod, iPhone, Apple TV and other video players

DVDRemaster can convert a DVD to a video compatible with your video iPod, iPhone and Apple TV. No need to worry about cumbersome settings, everything is summarized for you in simple presets.

You can choose the audio track from the DVD, listen to it in the preview and choose to include subtitles.

Extracting streams

DVDRemaster also allows you to extract raw data streams from your DVD. You can reuse those streams in another application.

What are people saying about it?

Pedro Fardilha, review on MacUpdate

I believe that for an app to be complete and good in what it does it doesn’t have to need a cumbersome GUI. And so far the only one that does almost all that I need and has a nice and usable GUI is DVDRemaster.

Metakine’s costumer support is really good and they always listen to what I have to say, even if it’s just a small detail.

Review on MacUpdate

DVDRemaster is one of the only programs that I purchased that successfully meets my needs. Two thumbs up…way up!

Review on Version Tracker

I’ve been using DVDRemaster for quite some time, specifically the “Pro” version. It’s a remarkable program that does exactly what I ask of it, and it does so with an ease and versatility that make it feel so “Mac-like” I’d almost think this program was commissioned by Steve himself. I’ve tried other competitor’s software, but DVDRemaster performs better, producing a higher quality image by comparison.

Review on Version Tracker

I have been using DVDRemaster Pro for almost three years and have been very happy with it. It does exactly what I need it to do.

Review on Version Tracker

It is a great piece of software. I’ve been using it since version 1.4.1, and seen it evolve into an awesome app.

Review on Version Tracker

All I have to say about the previous feedback is that he hit it right on the nose. Everything he said was correct. This app is great, fast, and just plain works RIGHT. I’ve been using it since version 1.4.

What are the computer requirements?

DVDRemaster is an universal binary application which will work on both PPC and Intel based Macs running Mac OS X 10.4 or higher and having QuickTime 7.2 or higher

What is Decompose?

Decompose is an application allowing an easy and flawless extraction of elements from pictures in order to use them to make composite images. It is the perfect tool for making images for web pages, newspapers and magazines or simply for your own creations. Extracted objects are saved as a TIFF file with transparency. Decompose also corrects colors to remove all traces of the previous background, thus generating perfect mattes.

Extract objects from images with ease

Extract objects from images with ease

Simply draw a rough outline of the elements to extract and identify the background region. Then all the cumbersome contour refinement is done automatically.

Smooth and spill-free edges

Smooth and spill-free edges

Extracted elements have smooth edges without any traces of the original background color. Hence, you can generate flawless composites.

How does it work?

Decompose allows you to easily extract elements from a picture and use them to make composite images. It is the perfect tool to make images for web pages, newspapers and magazines or simply for your own creations.

Traditional extraction of objects with a lasso tool typically takes time and the results are far from perfect. The extracted objects have rough edges that are often tinted with the color of the previous background. Decompose produces smooth edges and completely removes the background color.

You simply need to draw a rough approximation of the edges of the objects and identify the foreground and the background regions. Decompose then refines the edges, corrects the colors and allows you to save the result as a TIFF image ready to be used in your favorite compositing software.

What are people saying about it?

Greg Healy, Editor at MacApper

Decompose v1.0.2 can produce quite good results depending on how much time you want to spend, and is an application that I will definitely be using in the future.

For the complete review visit MacApper.

Editor’s review on Softpedia

A very nice little program that does this job a lot better than most professional applications out there, who lack such a dedicated tool. It definitely worths a look if you find yourself working on lot of decompositions.

For the complete review visit Softpedia.

Ian Greig, review on MacUpdate

I find that Decompose scores over Photoshop by having a brush to define the transitional edge areas where pixels may be foreground image or background.

A cut-out in PhotoShop relies on performing a very accurate selection, knocking out the background and then doing a lot of smoothing of the edges. In Decompose you make a broad-brush selection of the edge area, covering the whole border between foreground and background, from which the app. calculates which is which, removes the background to transparency and gives a smooth edge.

It seems to work well even if there isn’t a lot of contrast between foreground and background. If you can see it, you can cut it out.

Well worth the money to save time and effort — and if you need to make good quality, foolproof cut-outs in a hurry, you’ll thank the developers.

Review on VersionTracker

What an excellent little program! Works as advertised. So easy to use and efficient…

ZOT Price: $5.95

“I use EasyCrop every day, and I’ve tried many others…but no other application beats EasyCrop when I want to quickly and effortlessly resize images.”

The Hard Way

To illustrate the power of EasyCrop, consider the following scenario.

You wish to crop and scale down a photo to send in an email, and you want the file size to be under 50 KB. With a full-featured graphics application, these are the steps you would take:

  • Launch the app, and watch the app icon bounce and bounce and bounce …
  • Navigate clumsy file dialogs to reach the file you wish to open.
  • Crop the image and scale the result.
  • Export the result to a temporary JPEG file.
  • Check file size; if it’s too big, back up two steps or try a different JPEG Quality setting.
  • Open the folder containing the temporary file in the Finder.
  • Drag the file into the email you are composing.
  • Finally, delete the temporary file now that you no longer need it.
  • The EasyCrop Way

To perform the above task, simply drag the photo into EasyCrop. Then select the area you wish to crop and resize using a slider.
When you’re happy with what you see in the live preview, enter the file size limit and drag the preview image straight to the email you are composing.

    That’s it.

Download your copy today and try it out for yourself. Chances are that you will, like many others, find yourself using it more than you ever imagined.

    Some Usage Ideas

  • Email
  • Blog
  • Add a face to your Address Book contact
  • Set up pictures for your Mac OS X logon screen
  • Convert image file format
  • Take screenshots with built-in screen capture tool

  • No temporary files to erase
  • Live preview
  • Customizable constraint settings
  • Built-in screen capture tool
  • Full drag-and-drop support (e.g. drag image directly from Safari to EasyCrop)
  • Originals remain intact
  • EasyCrop is a small app that launches in no time. And since it takes up little resources
and is so useful, most users just keep it running all the time.

    Stuf
The clipboard manager with network sharing, categories, TinyURL support and much more.

    Normally: $18.00

    ZOT Price: $9.00

    Click to MacZOT Try Now

The professional clipboard manager built for the modern Mac.

Stuf is a clipboard manager designed for power users and creative professionals. Stuf runs in the background on your Mac watching your clipboard, when it changes, the contents are stored and can then be restored at any time. This means that you can copy text, pictures, and just about anything else and have those clipping silently stored by Stuf ready for use at any other time.

If you find yourself with many clippings that you use very frequently, you can create a new clipboard and drag and drop the clippings into the new clipboard. This means that you can sort all your clippings into categories which suit the way you work. If you want, you can give each clipping a name, so if you have complex text clippings in your favourite programming language, you can give them titles such as “Code for accessing MySQL database”, or “Convert JPG to PNG”, so you don’t have to read the code to work out what it does.

However, if you do want to read the code or look at clippings in greater detail, Stuf supports QuickLook on Leopard machines so you just need to select a clipping and hit space to view it in all it’s glory.

    Networking built-in

If you work with more than one Mac, or in a group, you can also share your clipboards over your local network, each clipboard can be enabled or disabled for sharing, and you can even set a password if you want to allow some users access but not others. Stuf uses multiple processes and multi-threading, to make best use of today’s multi-processor Macs, it also means that other users viewing your clipboards won’t slow you down. Each user sharing clipboards will appear on other machines along with their user picture, and name. Remote clipboards work just like the ones on your own machine, you can still use QuickLook and other cool features.

    Search everything

Stuf builds in a quick and simple search function, which searches all your clipboards and remote clipboards too! Just type in a word, hit enter and all clippings, on all machines running Stuf and return a list of all clippings containing that word, along with the familiar Stuf previews. If you see the clipping you want, you can can restore it to your clipboard, or drag a remote clipping into one of your own clipboards for later use.

    Quick & easy

Stuf also provides an icon on your menu bar, alongside standard Mac utilities like Spotlight or Time Machine, this lets you access the core features of Stuf in an instant, and paste into any application just by choosing the item from the menu.

How many times have you tried sending a large file as an email attachment
only to have it bounced? FileChute makes sending files drag-and-drop easy.
And it makes retrieving files a simple one-click affair for your recipients — no
    special software needed.

To send a file, just drop it on FileChute.
FileChute puts the file on your MobileMe account (or another server)
and generates a link for retrieving the file.
Drag the link to your email and send it off. That’s it.
And since what you’re sending is just a link, your recipients
can retrieve the file from a Mac, a PC or any other platform.

You can even drop multiple files and/or folders at once. FileChute
automatically creates an archive in the format of your choice – it
supports dmg, zip and tar – and sends the archive file.

Setting FileChute up to work with your MobileMe account is super easy.
But since not everyone has a MobileMe account, FileChute also works
great with other FTP or WebDAV-accessible web servers. Perform the
one-time set up by following the built-in Help. Once it is properly
set up, FileChute works just as perfectly with non-MobileMe servers.

Still not convinced? Here’s what our users say

Dan Frakes on MacWorld Mac Gems:”…and if you frequently send larger files to others across the Internet, it’s the easiest solution I’ve seen…”

Mac|Life magazine (July 2008) says, “FileChute makes sharing files online cut-and-paste easy.”

gulliver on VersionTracker:”I just tried this out last night,
and I am so hooked. Rarely have I seen such a perfect little app,
I can’t think of what could be improved.”

sinemacula on VersionTracker:”Very nice little app – does what it says and does it well. I particularly like the built-in ability to get a short download url via snipurl – very cool indeed!”

A macZOT Developer Interview with Jay Teo – Creator of FileChute.

Jay Teo at Yellow Mug Software Worldwide Headquarters

1 What’s the most unique, useful feature of your product?

    Drag-n-drop simplicity.

2 Why did you create this app? or What need were you trying to satisfy?

Like many indie developers, I created FileChute initially to scratch an itch. I wanted a way to send large files in as few steps as possible. For example, if the “file” is really a folder, I want the app to automatically zip it for me before sending. If the resulting link is long and unwieldy, I want the app to automatically obtain a short redirection link for me. Basically, I wanted to be able to drag-n-drop what I want to send and be done with it.

I didn’t (and still don’t) like web-based solutions or solutions that require my recipients to install special software (who wants to install yet another app just to receive a file from someone? That’s nuts!).

So I created FileChute. It turns out my itch is shared by enough Mac users that FileChute is now one of my best-selling apps.

3 What is most interesting to you about developing SW for the Mac platform.

One thing I find interesting is the level of misconception regarding Mac software development. Every now and then, someone would ask me something to the effect of, “Isn’t it hard to develop for the Mac since Apple is so secretive and hates third-party developers?”.

Nothing can be further from the truth. Apple is secretive, but only with regards to future products. As a development platform, the Mac is really very “open” in the sense that the development tools are free and frameworks are well documented. Another neat thing is that, being UNIX based, Mac OS X is able to leverage lots of open technologies. For example, I’m currently working on adding SFTP support to FileChute. And I’m doing so using Ruby, an open source scripting language.

4 What features should a prospective buyer look into during a trial of your product?

FileChute is really simple from the user’s perspective. Drag, drop, send the link. :-)

5 What are some interesting experiences you’ve had creating new versions of your software when OS is upgraded?

Things broke. Users complained. Developer (yours truly) stayed up all night fixing bugs. New version released. Users happy once again. Profit!

6 What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another developer? Why?

I have many favorites. Here are three I use many times a day: Quicksilver, TextExpander and 1Password.

I’d be lost without Quicksilver. I’d still be on question 4 without TextExpander. And without 1Password, my head would hurt from all the random strings (you do use random strings for passwords, don’t you?) I’d need to remember.

7 What features would you like to add to your product that at this time seem improbable/impossible?

The “Cure Cancer” button has been on my to-do list forever. I’ll get to that once I’m done implementing the Stop Global Warming feature. I know I can do it, but I need the help of new frameworks in Snow Leopard. Stay tuned.

8 What are the answers to some common questions people have about your app before they buy?

    Q. Is there a size limit to what you can send?
    A. FileChute doesn’t have a limit per se. However, MobileMe limits each file to no more than 2 GB. Other servers may also have some kind of size limit.

    Thanks Jay!

HAMSoft Engineering and macZot have teamed up with this special sale for the initial release of version 2. If you’ve tried version 1.x of ScriptLight then you need to try version 2.

Version 2 has been completely rewritten from the ground up. This makes it perform so much faster than v1 you won’t know you’re using the same program! Everything has been made better. The Code Table has many new columns and you can hide or show any columns you choose. The searching capabilities now are incredible. Now you can search on any column, or any combinations of columns, so you can find exactly what you’re looking for with a minimum of effort. There’s a new path control so you can get at your files very easily and there’s so many more new capabilities. You just have to try it to believe it. I think you’re going to love it!

    About ScriptLight

ScriptLight does what Spotlight does not. ScriptLight allows you to search and manage source code files on your computer.

Do you use applescript? Do you dabble in shell scripting? Lots of us use languages to write things for our computers. Maybe you use HTML or maybe you use JavaScript. Whatever language you use, ScriptLight will make it easy for you to search the actual code of your files so you can quickly find it and re-use it in your next project! ScriptLight also makes it easy for you to manage your code files with it’s other built-in functions.

With the number of files many of us have on our computer it becomes almost impossible to find code we have already created. Spotlight doesn’t allow us to search for Applescript code files and Spotlight doesn’t index all of the folders that hold our other types of source code. Now there’s ScriptLight which allows you to have all of your code files in one place. You’ll rediscover files you forgot you ever had!

What types of files does it work with?

  • Applescript Script
  • Applescript Text
  • Applescript Applications
  • C
  • Objective-C
  • C++
  • Java
  • Perl
  • Python
  • Ruby
  • Unix Shell Scripts
  • HTML
  • JavaScript
  • CSS
  • PHP
  • Verilog
  • VHDL
  • Tcl/TK
  • Lua
  • R
  • Note: If your file type is not listed contact HAMSoft Engineering through our website and we’ll add it for you.

    Why I created ScriptLight

I started programming with Applescript. What frustrated me most was as I got more into applescript I had a harder and harder time finding the applescript code that I had already written. When I would try to write a new applescript I wanted to re-use some of the applescript code that I had already written but I had no easy way of finding the code I needed. Spotlight doesn’t index applescript code files so Spotlight was useless for this task.

I set out to find something to help me. I found a few solutions but they were very expensive. That’s when I decided to write my own program and that’s how ScriptLight started. I quickly learned that I wasn’t the only person having these difficulties. So after several months of using ScriptLight for my own personal use, I decided to release it as a program so others could benefit too. Then as my programming skills expanded I started using other languages, and ScriptLight naturally morphed into more than just a tool to search applescript files. Today ScriptLight has many languages that it handles and many more capabilities than just searching. Really, I don’t know what I would do without it!

    How does ScriptLight work?

It’s very easy. You tell ScriptLight what types of code files you want added, you tell ScriptLight what folders to search for those files, you update your database, and that’s it. ScriptLight will find your code files in those folders and add them to the database of information so you can perform all of the functions in ScriptLight. You can add/remove search folders. You can change the file types Scriptlight will search for. Just press the “Update DB” button and ScriptLight will make the necessary changes according your preferences.

Now that ScriptLight is all set up you double-click a file in the table and the Code Preview window opens so you can view your code. You can search for specific files in the search area and the Code Table will adjust to find only those code files. If you view their code all of your search terms are highlighted so you can find the terms easily. Select another file in the Code Table and the Code Preview Window will adjust accordingly. It’s that simple!

Besides searching, what else can I do with ScriptLight?

  • Preview your code so you can find the code snippet you’re looking for.
  • Copy the code snippets right from the Preview window.
  • Perform searches of the code text right in the Code Preview Window.
  • Open your code in your editor of choice
  • Reveal the code files in the Finder so you don’t have to dig for them yourself.
  • Run applescript and unix shell scripts right from within ScriptLight.
  • Delete code files.
  • And a lot more! Try ScriptLight and find out!
  • What are people saying about it?

    An Administrator from Macscripter.net

I just downloaded your app. Very cool, great job! This should go over very well in the scripting community.

From a customer with over 4000 code files he added to ScriptLight

This is truly great stuff. Love it. Given it’s efficiency with my early tests, I’m not straining ScriptLight at all. Everything seems to be working quite well… I’m going to find this very useful.

Voted the #3 application by the Editors of Swinkle.net

    From an email I received

I’ve been using ScriptLight for a while now, and I must say, wuhu, I found some of my old shellscripts… almost think I love you! Very nice application.

    From another customer

Hank, you are insane. Damm, the speed when running an update on the database is SUPER!
