Mode 1: Organize

We have the same convenient organization features with a couple of additions.
The libraries are now called ‘Boxes’. Drag icons from the finder into a box, create as many boxes as you like.
Furthermore Boxes can be arranged in folders and subfolders and you can re-drag Boxes and folders to change their order.
We also created ‘Smart Boxes’, like iTunes Smart Playlists, these folders are constantly updated based on given criteria.

When clicking an application, you are able to peek inside the contents of an application and filter all the stuff in there by type. (png, tiff, pdf, ins)

Optimism has been the program I’ve been searching for for years. It’s clean uncluttered interface, customisability and combination of both charts and written reports are exactly the tools I need as a bipolar sufferer to map my moods and accurately record my mental states over time. I’d recommend it to any sufferer of a mood disorder who seeks another tool to help themselves and their healthcare providers better understand the evolution of their illness over time.

FAQs:

What is the difference between the software and the web app (see the additional offer page)?

The web and desktop versions are functionally the same, and we are developing them to be very similar going forward. There is an advantage with the web app in that you can access it from any computer whereas with the desktop version you are restricted to one computer or otherwise need to synchronize between computers (e.g. desktop and laptop). If you decide to use the iPhone/iPod app then there is an extra step for synching the iPhone to the software because the data needs to be downloaded from the online database. Nothing extra needs to be done for the web app.

What is your upgrade policy?
All software and web app upgrades are free. That way all users can enjoy the latest improvements.

Can I run the software on more than one computer?
Yes. The software is licensed on a per person, not per computer basis. You can run the software on multiple computers, but two people can’t use the same license. The database is the same in the Windows version. If you are sufficiently unlucky that you have to use Windows as well as Mac you can load the software onto both and synchronize between them. The web app requires a separate license (see the additional offer page).

What are your current development plans?
We are releasing an online phone interface very soon, so anyone with a mobile phone browser will be able to add records from their phone and sync later. We are adding more flexibility to the software for user specific measurements e.g. medications, supplements, food, weather, time of sleep, menstrual cycle, medical results, or any other custom requirements. Later in the year we will be making the charting more flexible, to display extra detail as determined by the user.

SJC: I think that has to be either it’s ease of use, it’s cross platform nature, or the ability to run it from a CD or USB Key – no install necessary.

ZOT: Why did you create this app? or What need were you trying to satisfy?

SJC: I use Mac’s through choice and sometimes PC’s through necessity. I needed a way to protect my documents with no fuss, regardless of what computer I was using. I have the Mac, Windows and Linux versions of R10Cipher on a USB drive on my keyring. My documents are always protected but always accessible.

ZOT: What features should a prospective buyer look into during a trial of your product?

SJC: Use Drag and Drop to encrypt a file. Double click to Decrypt it. How much easier can it get ? Also, Key Management. This is a very powerful part of R10Cipher and with the soon to be announced ‘God Mode’ add-on with distributed Key Database syncronisation, this feature becomes essential for large organisations and installations.

How Important is Encryption and Why Should I Bother ?

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 data controllers are required to take ‘appropriate technical and organisational measures against unauthorised or unlawful processing of personal data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal data’.

In practice information that is transported or sent via email in an unencrypted format goes against this directive. A number of high profile companies have received enforcement notices which specifically detail a failure to encrypt as being a breach of the Data Protection act and Data Protection principles.

Although there is currently no strict legal obligation to encrypt personal data, this can only be a matter of time.

Encryption is important, very. When your encryption solution is as easy to use as R10Cipher, there really is no excuse not to encrypt. Your clients will thank you for it.

Tell me more about the Data Protection Act

The Data Protection Act 1998 regulates how organisations should handle personal data that relates to a living individual who can be identified.

Organisations processing personal data must do so in accordance with eight core principles.

Principle 7: Technical and organisational measures should be taken to prevent unauthorised and unlawful processing, loss or damage to personal data.

Encryption is not specifically mentioned, but is one of the best ways of complying with Principle 7. With R10Cipher compliance is easy, simple and inexpensive.

Have You Got a Free Version for Decryption Only ?

We used to provide R10Decrypt for this purpose. However with the goal of decreasing the maintenance overhead and making it easier for ‘Decrypt Only’ customers to upgrade to the full version, you can now use the standard R10Cipher Trial version for this purpose. To remove the Nag Screen and Overlay / Trial Version window, just enter the User Name ‘Decrypt Only’ into the Preferences window and clear the Serial field. Save the Preferences.

Can I Encrypt a Folder or Directory ?

You can encrypt the *contents* of a folder but not the folder itself. To do this first compress or zip the folder then encrypt the resulting file with R10Cipher.

ZippyConverter Includes a simple web browser to make it more convenient to add YouTube URL’s and other web media directly from inside the application. Navigate to a page, click “List Links” and the list of links on that page will be displayed for adding to the main table provided it contains a link to a direct media file or a YouTube video page. Click “List Links” and ZippyConverter will scrape the page and try to find any links in the source of the page contain any media, click “Add to Table” to add it to the main table. Double-clicking on the table entry will allow you to make a clean URL if there are any extra tags left over after parsing.

Rip audio from Video files, just put a video file in the main window, select one of the audio presets and BAM, you’ve got yourself an audio file of your favorite videos.

ZippyConverter includes a built-in free proxy which will allow users outside the UK to download BBCiPlayer content and convert it for iPod or even take a bunch of programmes and convert them for DVD if you choose. If you live in the UK then you don’t need the proxy and can uncheck it from the preferences window, or you can opt to use your own proxy listed in the Network Sstem Preferences pane.

ZippyConverter will download BBC content regardless of the location you live by grabbing the link or links listed on that page, add then to the main table and convert them for you desired format. You can even choose to just have the files download without conversion using an option in the preferences window.

Using the built-in browser, navgate to http//bbc.co.uk/iplayer and click “List Links”, the list of available links will list and you can choose which ones you want added to the main table for conversion.

ZippyConverter uses the ffmpeg, mencoder and QuickTime engines to ensure maximum compatibility. For instance, ffmpeg has a ton of codecs built in but often there are files that may have a little trouble depending on how they were encoded in the first place. Installing the Perian plug-in for QuickTime ensures that any video that QuickTime can play, ZippyConverter will convert. ZippyConverter will run the file through the Perian codec and then output the file to your desired settings. Installing Flip4Mac will introduce Windows Media file decoding, the RealPlayer 9 codecs will decode RealPlayer files playable in QuickTime and easilly usable for DVD building. ZippyConverter uses auto detection methods to determine which files may have trouble. ?
