Review, Create, Annotate, Sign, Edit PDF Documents
Work towards a paperless office with new PDF Studio 7
Pro. Between mac Preview (free but limited in its PDF annotating
functions), and Adobe® Acrobat X Pro® (at almost $500) PDF Studio Pro fills the gap as an
affordable yet powerful PDF tool that supports most PDF functions while maintaining
full compatibility with the PDF Standard. Enable collaboration – read,
annotate, and create documents to share.

“I must say that I do find the software very useful. In the past, I

Interview with Qoppa’s Leila Holmann
What’s the most unique, useful feature of your
product?
That’s a tough call because PDF Studio supports so many
features and customers use it in so many different ways. If I have to choose
though, I’ll say adding a date and signing a contract because that’s what I mostly
use it for.The second feature that comes to mind is correcting text within the PDF
document content. This is because it’s our newly added feature in version 7
and we’re so proud of it.
Why did you create this app? or What need were you
trying to satisfy?
We believe in going paperless and PDF documents are the
number 1 electronic document format. Yet most office suites either don’t support PDF or
have very limited functionality. We wanted a PDF software that was affordable
and user friendly. Adobe Acrobat is available only in the Pro version on the
Mac and costs almost $500. We believe that PDF Studio fills the needs of 99% of
customers out there at ¼ of the price and that our app is easier to use and more intuitive.
What is most interesting to you about developing SW for
the Mac and/or iOS platforms.
Our application is cross-platform and we have Mac, Windows
and Linux customers. But we especially love our Mac users because we find that
they are friendly as well as demanding. We have improved our application a
lot based on Mac users’ feedback.
What features should a prospective buyer look into
during a trial of your product?
Review and markup with comments, drag and drop to assemble
documents, text content editing to correct text.
What are some interesting experiences you’ve had
creating new versions of your software when OS is upgraded?
I can’t remember any. Usually OS upgrades have been very
smooth for us as we’re java based and our application continues to work the same with
new OS.
What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another
developer? Why?
Eclipse. We’re a developer shop and we use Eclipse to
develop our application.
What features would you like to add to your product that
at this time seem improbable/impossible?
I can’t think about anything that is improbable or
impossible. There are some features that we want to add soon such as interactive form
creation, OCR.
What’s your upgrade policy?
Customers who buy PDF Studio are entitled to all free minor
version upgrades 7.xx. When version 8 comes out, existing customers benefit can
upgrade at 60% discount.
What should I ask that I’m forgetting?
Well, one thing that customers may be interested to learn
about PDF Studio is how complex it was for us to create such a product. Unlike most
other Mac apps out there, we are not using the PDF rendering engine that comes
packaged with Mac. We have created our own PDF rendering engine based on the more than
1000 pages of PDF specifications. Rendering was the most challenging part in
creating our app. We then added all commenting and editing features which are so useful
to customers.
Having our own rendering engine gives us a lot of control and
freedom. We are not limited by the quality of the PDF rendering engine on Mac. For this
reason we support unique features such as official digital signatures that are
the only real way to secure PDF documents.
What are the answers to some common questions people
have about your app before they buy?
We have a knowledge base with answers to the most common questions: kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com

While trying to convert a specific Word file to PDF I get the following message:
Error reading file:
Invalid heaqder signature; read 0x615C316674725C7B, expected 0xE11AB1A1E011CFD0
This happens with OS X 10.7.2 and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
With the Mac a quick and easy solution is to Print and Save as PDF, but it would be better to be able to do this with PDF Studio each time.

It seems that version 7 lacks OCR, the creation of fillable forms, and Undo.
Will these options be added in version 7?

Good value for money tool. I recommend it. Price is also okay I would have bought it for $100 too. Good work maczot guys.

No participation from the developer.
No answers.
Just a comment from someone who would pay $100 for this, when the price last year was $95 (Yes, the Pro version had a 32% increase).
I REALLY wanted to buy this one, but I’ll have to pass. I guess I’ll upgrade my old copy of PDFpen Pro and save some money.

This is in response to Eddie’s 1st comment regarding an error when converting a Word file to PDF. If the Word file is not confidential, please send it to us at: studiosupport@qoppa.com so we can fix this issue for the next PDF Studio version. In the meantime, you can convert this Word file to PDF using the workaround you suggest: Print and Save as PDF.

This is in response to Eddie’s second comment: I do not believe that OCR, creation of fillable forms and Undo will be added to PDF Studio 7. We may add some or all of these features to version 8. But PDF Studio supports hundreds of very advanced features and at this price it’s a great deal.

Thanks for the replies.
Regarding the comment “at this price it’s a great deal” I would have agreed yesterday ;)
Perhaps I’ll check it again in the future.
