Hi ZOT Friends, |

I can’t make it work on my Mac with Snow Leopard and Safari 5.1.5. I click on the video capture button to activate the capture it but it doesn’t stay enabled.
April 9th, 2012 at 10:12 pm
Can it select hd versions of videos?
April 9th, 2012 at 10:17 pm
This app has similar limitations to all the other apps I’ve tried. It cannot download certain protected youtube videos, making it no better than a free app. Also, I tested it on snagfilms.com and it failed to save those too. Shame.
April 9th, 2012 at 11:28 pm
What I want to do is “TiVo” programs so I can watch them later, even if I’m away from a WiFi connection. It appears VidBas can’t accomplish that on sites like PBS, so what good is it?
April 9th, 2012 at 11:33 pm
Couple of things right off the bat:
1. You should definitely get your software listed at MacUpdate. I always check there to see what other users have to say about any given software. Most of the time comments there are very helpful and constructive… most of the time.
2. When demoing your software, a box pops open right away that says,
“VidBas wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this.”
I assume the changes it needs to make are changes to my system that allow it to record the video being played in my browser. But an explanation here would be helpful (of what exactly is being changed). I am very very reluctant to just type in my password to allow system changes for something that I don’t know what is being changed and also from a source that I don’t know, of which both apply to you in this case.
Just my 2ยข.

I had been looking for a replacement for Cosmopod. VidBas might be a good choice.
An important detail is missing! (if I missed seeing it, I apologize) Is VidBas compatible with Lion? Before the deal ends, please?
One refinement I’d like to see is a simple method to delete a video that has started and the download has been stopped. By selecting the download, then clicking on a button or by a drop down contextual menu with a stop command and a delete command?
April 10th, 2012 at 1:49 am
Yes, VidBas do work under Lion. In fact its system requirements:
Mac OS X 10.8 / 10.7 / 10.6 / 10.5 (PPC/Intel) / 10.4 (PPC/Intel)
Valid internet connection, at least 1GB of RAM.
You can remove item by pressing Alt+Backspace.
You can download HD/Full HD versions of clip by choosing the clip quality in your browser. VidBas will catch the download.

In the very near future VidBas will support many new web sites including the technology for downloading 0.001% of protected videos on YouTube :)
If anyone has any problem with VidBas, please comment it to support@vidbas.com and our support team will answer ASAP providing either a fix or workaround for your issue, so you can still be in time for this offer.

This looks really excellent. I tried it on many sites and the speed was wonderful. Even though I chose to trust you, I second the comment about the install message.
April 10th, 2012 at 4:05 am
Like Jaksta, it doesn’t appear to work through a VPN connection.
April 10th, 2012 at 3:27 am
VidBas is working through VPN connection. At least it should :)
It was tested under different configuration including 3G network and vpn over them.
Could you please email your network configuration (and vpn type) as well as your console log to support@vidbas.com and or engineers will analyze the problem for you? Later it will be fixed or provided with workaround for your convenience.
April 10th, 2012 at 4:19 am
It would be really nice if you mentioned in your promotional materials — or anywhere on your site — what video formats VidBas can actually convert. For example, can it handle WMV?
April 10th, 2012 at 4:36 am
Unfortunately I cannot get it to work. MBP 8GB , OS X 10.7.3 (german is default language). I have the same problem as LaurentR. Capture cannot be started.
April 10th, 2012 at 4:44 am
I just bought VidBas please answear the following:
The program window is titled MovieSherlock Lite and when I go to Preferences there is announcement: Preference controls are not available in Lite version. Please click Upgrade button to purchace Full version
When I do so I can only found the same version I am already using.
What is this all about?
April 10th, 2012 at 5:25 am
The window title bug was just fixed as reported by our dev team. Please restart VidBas.
We do support the WMV file format as well as many-many others. The program outputs MP4 and MP3 formats that are 100% playable on your Mac.
Please let our support team know, ifd you are having problems using VidBas.
Thank you very much for the feedback.

Looks cool but concerned about wanting my password as Picon says.
April 10th, 2012 at 8:07 am
OK – every time i start the app it says there’s a new version available, then if i download from the website and install the ‘update’ it’s exactly the same version. I’m also getting the messages regarding the ‘lite’ version…not a great start to using the app…!
April 10th, 2012 at 8:08 am
MovieSherlock:
I would buy it if I could verify its functionality. Sent a help request to the developer, but no reaction so far. I don’t think that LaurentR and myself are the only people having the problem that Capture cannot be started.
April 10th, 2012 at 8:15 am
I have to say that this is a poor Zot…! The registration process seems to kill a lot of the functionality of the app – it’s only when i enter my serial number that the message about the ‘lite’ version appears, and it looks like it affects the downloads from certain sites…not terribly impressed i’m afraid…!
April 10th, 2012 at 8:17 am
Oh – and there’s NO link to any form of help on the developers web site…thanks guys…!
April 10th, 2012 at 8:35 am
VidBas needs to know your password to function properly, but it does not saves it and under no circumstances shares it. In fact, VidBas does not even knows it, after your type it in in your system. It just gets possibility to do its job.
We will add a better explanation for the future versions.
April 10th, 2012 at 8:35 am
VidBas usage is so easy, that generally, you don’t need help file or anything. Just launch VidBas, start Video Capture (if it does not start automatically), play video in your browser and it will be downloaded by VidBas.
That’s it. Really.
Please take my deep apologize for the “lite” bug and update bug. They both are fixed as of now. Please restart VidBas or re-enter your license code.
April 10th, 2012 at 8:53 am
How do you adjust the video resolution? I do not see anyway to control what gets downloaded. For example, many YouTube videos come in various resolutions with the default being 240p, which is terrible quality. If I change it to 720p, VidBas has already started downloading. So is there no way to control which version gets downloaded?
April 10th, 2012 at 8:59 am
Video resolution: VidBas will download exactly what you are viewing in your browser. IT has not control over your browser, but you do :)
We have in our TODO list to make exceptions for youtube like sites and download only high res vids from there. You can use MovieSherlock.com for that purpose.
Open video in the browser, choose resolution: VidBas will be downloading 2(+) videos at the moment. Cancel first and leave send – that will high res video.
April 10th, 2012 at 11:06 am
OK – now the developers have sorted the ‘lite’ and ‘upgrade’ bugs i can see that this is actually a good, usable app – and i’ve found the link to the support email in the help menu of the app…much happier now…;-)
April 10th, 2012 at 11:14 am
Suggestion: Have the VidBas main window show the file size being downloaded (or the video resolution) to save confusion about exactly what I’m downloading (and for us with slower connections, how long it might take)
Tech issue?: One YouTube video was not captured from the beginning, but from about 3 seconds in. I started the download at 360p switched it to 720p, and it is the 720p video that starts late. Glitch?
Comment: This is fast! I’m looking for something faster, simpler, and more reliable than Videobox, and in initial tests, this is it!
April 10th, 2012 at 11:26 am
Can there be a simple popup menu to select which format or device the video will be converted to?
Can you show the file size during the download? or the video resolution chosen?
This is fast!
April 10th, 2012 at 11:00 am
Got it to work on my Mac Pro, but not on my MacBook Pro. What I’m missing is a better naming of the downloaded file. Only date and time based names aren’t too descriptive. At least on youtube you could evaluate the page’s tag and use it for naming the file.
April 10th, 2012 at 12:23 pm
I took your response and tried it. The problem is you don’t know which file is which if you let the download finish. There is no description as to the resolution. Sometimes YouTube doesn’t load the higher resolution and picks the next lower one, so you don’t know what the resolution of the file is.
Your other option mentioned (MovieSherlock.com) didn’t work. Your download link results in “404 (Page Not Found) Error” so I couldn’t try out what you suggested.
April 10th, 2012 at 1:27 pm
It would be nice if we were allowed more than a single install. I purchased this MacZOT after testing it on my desktop. But I cannot install it on my laptop. VidBas will primarily be used on the laptop, but I’d like the option to run it on my desktop when I need to. And of course I will not be using the program on both at the same time….
April 10th, 2012 at 2:12 pm
its a Great App! :)
April 10th, 2012 at 2:29 pm
Trial seems to work well, however, my payment attempt always results in a mysterious “error”, so I cannot buy it at today’s price. :(
April 10th, 2012 at 6:42 pm
Checked your website. There is NO SUPPORT or contact info.
So do you support your products? If so how.
That is a big Red Flag!!
April 10th, 2012 at 7:39 pm
duug88:
The “Support” menu has a “Contact Support” item which creates an email to support (support@VidBas.com).
[enkaytee mentioned this earlier.]

FLV, Hmm.

Doesn’t work. While it does download the YouTube videos quickly and efficiently, not one will play. I’ve tried all settings and in every case I get the file “could not be opened. The movie’s file format isn’t recognized.” The suffix is .mp4 which should play, but it doesn’t. I even tried Quicktime 7 and the all versatile VLC, but no program will play the file.

” Three commenters who are willing to give detailed, constructive feedback (it need not be positive) will receive a free code for VidBas or MovieShelock, your choice. We will post in the comments when the freebies are gone.”
Really??
So I guess there are still three codes to be given out…

The developer of VidBas will be contacting the winners soon. They were chosen recently. I’ll ask him to post them here as well as contacting directly.
I won’t steal his thunder too much – He mentioned:
“…the feedback was extremely useful. Thank you.”
