I really wish Apple would buy this software and make it spotlight. So often I try to find a file in spotlight, can't, and use Tembo to find it. Perhaps I'm just not smart enough to get spotlight to find something, but the Tembo elephant seems to have no problem. If you hate spotlight, but love finding stuff on your Mac, Tembo is a good investment. – By The Cyclist Edge

Tembo: Easy and Effective Searching

Tembo is an efficient search tool that is based upon the Spotlight engine.
The job of Tembo is to make searching (and finding) of files, mail messages, bookmarks, … as easy as possible.

Grouped Search Results

At first sight you will find Tembo to have been inspired by the original Spotlight interface as we knew it under Mac OS X Tiger.
Search results are grouped by categories. Preferences allow for categories to be enabled, disabled and reordered.

Drill Down: Details & Filters

Behind a small arrow on the header bar for each group you will find the real power of Tembo: drill-down. Tembo may list up to 2500 search results within each group. Here you will find filter appropriate for the context. These help you sort through the list of results.

More than a File Search Tool

Thus Tembo is much more than a file search tool. It works as an extension to Mail.app / iChat.app to locate messages. And as extension to Safari to search browsing history and bookmarks, etc.

    I like Tembo a lot and use it almost always instead of spotlight. Great software

    I love this app. It’s a little kludgy, I think. It wasn’t dirt easy to figure out how to searh specific locations, and I didn’t find the interface intuitive right off the bat. But the learning curve is minimal (think anthill), and once you’ve got it, this app is quick to launch, finds things fast and had me looking at other apps the developer offered.

    I’d buy at the regular price (I got this initially through a bundle offering), but at $5, I think it’s a steal.

    And I agree with the comment above about using it instead of spotlight. You’re able to drill down into the results in a way that Spotlight doesn’t offer, among other things.
