Requirements: Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later

Which applications is Timing compatible with? – FAQ

More info – http://timingapp.com/

Developer Interview – Daniel Alm

> 1 What’s the most unique, useful feature of your product?

Most time tracking applications require you to start and stop timers manually. But Timing automatically determines what documents you are working on right now, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting to set a timer!

> 2 Why did you create this app? or What need were you trying to satisfy?

While I was creating my previous app, PocketCAS (http://pocketcas.com), I was always wondering how much time I spent on it. But as I don’t consider myself disciplined enough to start and stop timers all the time, there was no way for me to find out. So I created a tool that does all this tracking automatically.

> 3 What is most interesting to you about developing SW for the Mac and/or iOS platforms.

I love how Apple’s frameworks make it easy to create really awesome functionality very quickly. It’s very satisfying to finally see a great feature that you spent a lot of time on working perfectly.

> 4 What features should a prospective buyer look into during a trial of your product?

The application is really easy to use. Just start it once to have it start tracking in the background, then revisit it after a day to review and categorize your activities.

> 5 What are some interesting experiences you’ve had creating new versions of your software when OS is upgraded?

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Timing worked out of the box with Lion.

> 6 What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another developer? Why?

I think that would be TeXShop. I am still a student, so I have to write a lot of scientific texts, and TeXShop is as close to the perfect LaTeX editor as you can get.

> 7 What features would you like to add to your product that at this time seem improbable/impossible?

Currently, Timing only displays your activities aggregated by day. It would be nice to have a real timeline overview of what you did at an exact moment, but there are some serious user interface and engineering challenges attached to it. It’s hard to present your activities ordered by time in a clean and uncluttered fashion.

> 8 What’s your upgrade policy?

Upgrades for version 1 will be free, but I have not decided about the pricing on future major upgrades yet.

> 9 What are the answers to some common questions people have about your app before they buy?

I often get asked me if a specific application is supported by Timing. There’s a compatibility chart at http://timingapp.com/faq.php#compatibility, but it’s by no means extensive. It’s best to download the free version, Timing lite, and check for yourself. It’s functionality isn’t limited, but it will only present today’s and yesterday’s activities.

Thanks Daniel!

The Union RapidWeaver Bundle by Rapid Ideas includes 17 highly professional themes an 10 stacks for the web design tool Rapidweaver. Our clean and crisp designs and feature rich stacks will turn your project into a web 2.0 website, including many variations to choose from and many features not found in any other themes or stacks.

Most of our clients are from the creative or artistic sector who want to present their work in a clean and stylish way. And If you’re looking for advanced and customizable themes for your private blog or business site, you should have a closer look on the Rapid Ideas Themes.

Of course all included stacks are updated for the Stacks2 plugin. To see all the details of the products, please visit the Rapid Ideas Main Page.

Some Features to mention

Many Style Variations

You can fine tune your pages with custom colors, images and also set specific layout options.
Rapid Ideas themes come with many style variations which can turn a simple RW site into an artistic and personally designed webpage.

Custom Colors

You can choose from a wide range of custom color variations for many parts of the designs.
Give your page the exact colors and impression you want.

Lightboxes Included

I am sure you already have found pages which uses “lightboxes” to present media. I chose to feature Mediabox (or MediaboxAdvanced) and Shadowbox in my designs.
These libraries are preinstalled and easy to enable. You can show additional information
to the user without opening a new window or redirecting them to another site – and this means: they will stay longer on your site!

Extra Content

In some of my latest themes I added my own implementation of “Extra Content”.
This means you can add content to additional parts of the layout. Simply add a slideshow to the header or a stacks page
to the footer. The possibilities are endless.

Browser Support

Of course, cross-browser support is always very important to me. You can be sure your site looks fine on all modern browsers:
Firefox 7+, Safari5, IE8, IE9 (for updated themes), Opera10
Also almost all themes still support IE6 and IE7, even this browser is not officially supported by me anymore.

Slick Animations

There are people who like animations, others don’t. For me Animation was never just to be cool. They need to add value to the design.
I added discreet menu animation to some of the themes, which can also be disabled.

Testimonials

Reinhard Maag: I was taken by your designs and find them in a Swiss Graphics tradition of: Clean + Clear = Convincing

Nicolai Gregersen: I must say – you truly are an artist at this. I am a relatively newbie RW user, but your designs came to my attention from start. They are miles from what other designers offer, both in usability and appearance. If the winter olympics had a discipline called RW design (on ski?) – you’d be sure to get the gold…

Melanie Morschel: Your themes are the best ones out there

Jason: Thanks for your creative talents!!

Don Newmeyer: I really think your ideas are more visually appealing and creative then the other RW theme designers

Daniel Will: Another reason I find myself using your themes rather than others is your use of type. As a long time typographer, I’ve been disappointed by how other themes treat type. Only yours seem to have some sense of good typography.

Bob Walz: I really appreciate your work. Your designs help me turn eyes into ears so people can hear my message, thank you!

More Information about the individual themes and stacks in this bundle and Demo versions can be found on my main site: http://www.rapid-ideas.com

Some Words about Rapid Ideas

Rapid Ideas started as a private project of Christoph Richardet. Back in 2005 there were only limited themes available for RapidWeaver. My main idea was to bring RW themes to a
new level by developing themes which broke the standard look of RW themes. I found that many RW users were very impressed by the possibilities of these themes.
The RW community grows with each day adding a big value to the software.
In june 2009 I decided to start my own company in the field of web design and graphics under the name Richardet Design. Our headquarter is located near Zurich, Switzerland

I want to thank the Real Mac Software Team for the marvelous tool and all my customers letting me do what I love to do!

And last but not least: I created my own project forworldaid, where I spend 10% of my yearly profit to important organizations. On the project site you can actually see my business profit, which is updated about each month. So, getting any product from my business will also support the Red Cross, Amnesty International and Greenpeace.

    great so far
Written by Aditya Agarwal 3 months ago -

I only just started the course – am on chapter 3. At different points in the last 10 years or so I have tried understanding object oriented programing (I had some exposure to sequential programing earlier in life). Each time – I struggled to understand the concepts. For the first time ever I think I am beginning to get a hang of this… thanks!

Ruby is famous for being easy to learn, but most users only scratch the surface of what it can do. While some books and tutorials focus on Ruby’s trendier features, this course reveals the secret inner workings of one of the world’s most popular programming languages, teaching you to write clear, maintainable code.

Rather than bog you down with a lot of theory, this course takes a hands-on approach and focuses on making you productive from day one.

Whether you’re new to programming or just new Ruby, this course is your guide to rapid, real-world software development with this unique and elegant language.

    Who uses Ruby?

Ruby is an incredibly powerful and highly scalable object-oriented language. Leading technology companies & startups around the world use Ruby or the Ruby on Rails framework to power their websites & web applications. They include:

    • Amazon
    • Twitter
    • Electronic Arts
    • Yahoo
    • New York Times
    • 37 Signals
    • And many many more…

    What’s in this course…

    • 27 video lectures detailing the ten steps to becoming an awesome Rubyist
    • Free eBook The Little Book of Ruby and exclusive discount for The (Big) Book of Ruby
    • Downloadable source codes and sample test files to compliment lectures
    • 5 extra videos detailing Ruby on Rails, Symbols, Recursion, and other challenges

      About your instructor

Huw has been a programmer for more than 30 years. He is a well-known technology writer in the UK and has written numerous opinion and programming columns (including tutorials on C#, Delphi, Java, Smalltalk, and Ruby) for a number of computer magazines, such as Computer Shopper, Flash & Flex Developer’s Magazine, PC Pro, and PC Plus. He is the author of the free ebook The Little Book of Ruby and is the editor of the online computing magazine Bitwise (http://www.bitwisemag.com/).

In the 1980s he was a pop music journalist and interviewed most of the New Romantic stars, such as Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Adam Ant, Boy George, and Depeche Mode. He is now writing a series of New Romantic murder mysteries.

At various times Huw has been a magazine publisher, editor, and TV broadcaster. He has an MA in English from the University of Cambridge and holds a 2nd dan black belt in aikido. Why should our users BUY Udemy videos when they can find so much FREE stuff on YouTube/Vimeo etc etc etc…?

Can I really make my own Udemy course? How?
You sure can. Simply go to udemy.com and click the ‘create a course’ button at the top left of the screen and follow you nose =)

“Mark is truly amazing! I don’t think that I have worked with a more skilled and polished trainer/presenter. His ability to make the difficult seem easy and the complex seem simple is unmatched by anyone else that I have had the opportunity to work with. He is a star among experts and it shows on screen. Another amazing ability the Mark has is his ability to develop courseware. I don’t know if there is anything that Mark can’t do!”

    About your instructor

    Mark Lassoff

    Corporate Technical Trainer

LearnToProgram.tv is a leading corporate technical training firm. LearnToProgram.tv provides training for software, web and mobile developers world wide. Our courses have taken place at Fortune 500 companies, training centers and Federal Government organizations. Now on Udemy, you can experience the same great instruction that you get in one of our classroom sessions– at a small fraction of the price.

About Mark– The Guy Behind LearnToProgram.tv

Mark Lassoff’s parents frequently claim that he was born to be a programmer. In the mid-eighties, when the neighborhood kids were outside playing kickball and throwing snowballs, Mark was hard at work on his Commodore 64 writing games in the BASIC programming language. Computers and programming continued to be a strong interest in college where Mark majored in Communications and Computer Science. After completing his college career, Mark worked in the software and web development departments at several large corporations.

In 2001, on a whim, while his contemporaries were conquering the dot com world, Mark accepted a position training programmers in a technical training center in Austin, Texas. It was there that Mark fell in love with teaching programming, which has been his passion ever since. Today Mark is a top technical trainer, traveling the country providing training for software and web developers. Mark’s training clients include the Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin, Discover Card Services, and Kaiser Permanente. He has consulted for companies such as Dell, Target, Lockheed Martin, and government agencies including the US House of Representatives. In addition to traditional classroom training and consulting, Mark releases video tutorial training for aspiring programmers on his website, www.LearnToProgram.tv and Udemy.com.

He lives near Hartford, Connecticut where he is in the process of redecorating his condominium.

PC, 64-bit or 32-bit Intel-based; Tiger Mac OSX

    10.4.

    Interview with Qoppa’s Leila Holmann

What’s the most unique, useful feature of your

    product?
That’s a tough call because PDF Studio supports so many

features and customers use it in so many different ways. If I have to choose

though, I’ll say adding a date and signing a contract because that’s what I mostly

use it for.The second feature that comes to mind is correcting text within the PDF

document content. This is because it’s our newly added feature in version 7

and we’re so proud of it.

Why did you create this app? or What need were you

    trying to satisfy?
We believe in going paperless and PDF documents are the

number 1 electronic document format. Yet most office suites either don’t support PDF or

have very limited functionality. We wanted a PDF software that was affordable

and user friendly. Adobe Acrobat is available only in the Pro version on the

Mac and costs almost $500. We believe that PDF Studio fills the needs of 99% of

customers out there at ¼ of the price and that our app is easier to use and more intuitive.

What is most interesting to you about developing SW for

    the Mac and/or iOS platforms.
Our application is cross-platform and we have Mac, Windows

and Linux customers. But we especially love our Mac users because we find that

they are friendly as well as demanding. We have improved our application a

lot based on Mac users’ feedback.

What features should a prospective buyer look into

during a trial of your product?
Review and markup with comments, drag and drop to assemble

documents, text content editing to correct text.

What are some interesting experiences you’ve had

creating new versions of your software when OS is upgraded?
I can’t remember any. Usually OS upgrades have been very

smooth for us as we’re java based and our application continues to work the same with

    new OS.

What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another

    developer? Why?
Eclipse. We’re a developer shop and we use Eclipse to

    develop our application.

What features would you like to add to your product that

    at this time seem improbable/impossible?
I can’t think about anything that is improbable or

impossible. There are some features that we want to add soon such as interactive form

    creation, OCR.

    What’s your upgrade policy?
Customers who buy PDF Studio are entitled to all free minor

version upgrades 7.xx. When version 8 comes out, existing customers benefit can

    upgrade at 60% discount.

What should I ask that I’m forgetting?
Well, one thing that customers may be interested to learn

about PDF Studio is how complex it was for us to create such a product. Unlike most

other Mac apps out there, we are not using the PDF rendering engine that comes

packaged with Mac. We have created our own PDF rendering engine based on the more than

1000 pages of PDF specifications. Rendering was the most challenging part in

“Though MacFreelance is aimed at the person with little time for deeply integrated invoice tracking software you can create a useful set of reports to see where you are with your cash flow. The flexibility of the system and the simplicity of creating custom reports also means that you’ll be able to manage every area of your business no matter how niche your requirements might seem.”
    Excerpt from Pocket Lint Review

    Leader of the Pack
“I had been using MS Excel to track time and then send invoices. However, without a good way to track what invoices were sent and what payments had been received I found myself wondering if I had been paid for all of the jobs completed. I needed a comprehensive means to track the time spent on the project as well as the status of each monthly invoice. MacFreelance from Macware did the trick – and did it with style.

After researching several freelance project timers I found MacFreelance the easiest to use and the most comprehensive. After the install I quickly added my first client, several projects, and then was able to start timing my first project. Now my clients can know exactly what I spent time doing, and I can know that the Invoice has been sent and if payment has been received.

    4W WebMerge

Publish any database to any web server.

    Normally: $99.00

    ZOT Price: $49.50

    Publish any database or spreadsheet
with templates from any HTML editor
    on any web server.

    And then automate it.

    Yep. It’s that easy.

WebMerge lets you export your database to HTML, generating static Web pages from your database content.

WebMerge works with any database or spreadsheet that exports in tab-delimited, Merge, or other tabular format, including FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel. Using HTML template pages you can make with your favorite authoring tool, WebMerge makes a new HTML page from the data in each record of the exported file. WebMerge can also create index pages with links to each of the detail pages. Generated pages can be hosted on any web server without the need for a specialized database hosting solution.

WebMerge 2.4 provides support for multi-column index page layouts, a new WM-FieldInclude tag which lets you insert a text file or HTML file referenced by a path in your field data, enhanced support for JavaScript and CSS in navigation tags, and a few other minor enhancements.

WebMerge works locally on your hard drive, uploading it pages using standard FTP. It requires no extensions to your system, ans no special CGIs or other components on your server. Everything you need to start generating pages is included in one easy-to-use application.

A wide variety of businesses, universities, and other organizations rely on WebMerge daily, ranging from web designers to the US Library of Congress. Most of our customers tell us that WebMerge paid for itself with the first project they used it on.

Here’s what others say about WebMerge:

"…easy, low-cost Web publishing software to create a database-derived site that doesn’t require any complex Web database infrastructure."
    - MacWorld Magazine

"This product works incredibly quickly and smoothly. I outputted 19,000 hotel records neatly and quickly into templates that were extremely easy to put together. Workflow is actually fun now – watching this thing make a huge interlinked and organised website that rocks in the search engines all at the press of a button and in under a minute is such a pleasure!"
    -
    G. Hall
    TravelBX

"WebMerge has been invaluable to me to significantly upgrade our site in an efficient way. Combined with Filemaker and a good html editor such as GoLive or Dreammaker, WebMerge is incredibly flexible. Webmerge has become an indispensible tool for me.

"Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of WebMerge is the ease of making updates. Make a quick change to the data, click a couple buttons…and it is done.

"Thank you Richard for a superb tool. And thank you for the first rate support that you and your contributing experts provide. The learning curve was swift."
    -
    Philip Brouwer
Accent on Rugs of Los Gatos

"I searched high and low to find a simple solution to the conversion of my FileMaker Pro files into pages that don’t look like some kind of database junk listings.

"WebMerge is still the best solution I have seen yet. I use weekly to generate 41 different categories of items into 200+ pages for my web site in about 90 seconds. Great program!"
    -
    JW Freeman
    JWMercantile, LLC

"This is a GREAT product . . . powerful, logical, intuitive, and reasonably priced. I love it.

"I found WebMerge by searching for something like "mail merge" but for web pages. I thought I might find something, but I never expected to find something done by SMART PEOPLE.

"Thank you. I totally relate to what you’ve done."

  • ZOT Interview with Garry Taylor of The Escapers

Garry ‘The G Man’ Taylor first cut his programming teeth on Sun SPARC workstations using TCL, assembler, and touching two wires together in a timely manner. He enjoys fine Scottish Malt Whisky, photography, and cinema. Check out his personal blog.

What’s the most unique, useful feature of your product?

I think it’s the cross-platform sync. We decided to make our own sync
system, (Instruktion) rather than use iCloud or DropBox so we were in control, and
we could make clients for whatever devices we liked.

Why did you create this app? or What need were you trying to satisfy?

I personally wanted somewhere to list all my tasks, and I wanted to
have it in a few places, on my two Macs, my phone, tablet, and
    Chromebook.

What is most interesting to you about developing SW for the Mac
    and/or iOS platforms.

For Mac, it’s the user base, they actually care about the software
they use, so while you can get free versions of just about everything,
a Mac user will pay for a better experience, not just put up with what
they have. For iOS it’s the consistency, there are only a few models
to test on, and the platform is kept up to date even on quite old
devices. Android is cool, but the inconsistency and fragmentation is
    just awful as a developer.

What features should a prospective buyer look into during a trial of
    your product?

I’d say just use New York Minute a lot, list every little job you have
to do, even the insignificant stuff. It really helps to write it all
down. Also, use the categories to organize your work as best you can.
Finally, synchronization is the heart of New York Minute, install it
on every device you own! If we don’t support your device, let us know.

What are some interesting experiences you’ve had creating new
versions of your software when OS is upgraded?

I think the removal of scrollbars in Lion was an interesting change, I
think it looks really good and minimalist, but how do you indicate to
the user that there is more content if they scroll down? We’ve been
caught out a couple of times with this.

What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another developer? Why?

TextWrangler, it’s the best editor I’ve used on any platform. The
first I used with a function list that actually worked! It can handle
huge files too. It’s a reason to use a Mac in my opinion.

What features would you like to add to your product that at this
    time seem improbable/impossible?

I don’t know, sometimes we think about ideas which sound good, but are
tough to monetize because there is a feeling on the internet that
websites/web services should be free. That means only products with
ads or a stream of venture capital can exist in some areas. I’d love
to see realistic pricing on bandwidth and compute time, and a pricing
model like mobile phones where some costs are billed via your ISP. I
think it’s highly improbable though, I think we’re stuck with the
advertising driven model for the foreseeable future.

    What’s your upgrade policy?

For New York Minute, all upgrades are free. For Flux, we tend to
charge for upgrades for each major version.

What should I ask that I’m forgetting?

What should you buy me for my birthday? How about a bottle of Lagavulin whisky.

What are the answers to some common questions people have about
    your app before they buy?

For Flux, people tend to ask if they can import their existing sites.
Flux 3 can work with most, but the next version is a quantum leap
ahead, I think some users are going to be blown away by it.

We also get asked about licensing, how many machines can you install
on etc. The way we see it is that you are the user, not the computer,
so any computer you own can get an install at no extra charge.

    Thanks Garry!
