I think that the most unique feature of our software is the ease of use of the application. 5. What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another developer? Why?
There are very many. I believe that’s what distinguishes the Mac world from the others, the ease and beauty of the applications. Among those that come to mind now – Transmit is one of those I value most, the guys at Panic have done a great job hiding to the end user the complications that such kind of software must handle in the background and the best thing is that despite being at a level above the other, they never stop improving it.
6. What features would you like to add to your product that at this time seem improbable/impossible?
One of the most interesting things about this software is that it’s made up of a solid, incredibly powerful engine designed by the talented software Engineer Marco Cassinerio. The application will be easily expandable with new features. The Mac version and the iPhone are perfectly aligned by the great engineering work that is behind the scenes. The program already has a well defined road map with what users have asked us for, and we will surprise users with features that appear for the first time on a program of this type. We also are designing an incredible iPad version that will be fully synchronizable with the version for iPhone/iPod touch and the Mac version.
7. What would you like a user to ask you?
The question some users have asked is: “Since the databases are so easy to use, can they really do much?” The fact that we were asked this question means that we hit the goal: to create from scratch a software, hiding its power at the beginning and gradually when the user uses it, ready to take on new tasks.
8. What are the answers to some common questions people have about your app before they buy?
One of the most frequently asked questions concerns the security of the data. Of course one of our main concerns was to ensure safety to user data. The application for both iPhone and Mac can be password protected to prevent unauthorized use. We have also created a robust backup, synchronization and export system. Ivan Gobbo has a degree in psychology at the University of Padova (Italy), then achieved a two-year post university Master’s of the Center for Strategic Therapy of Arezzo and Mental Research Institute of Palo Alto. Currently he holds the position of CEO at Apimac, a company founded in 1996 dedicated to Mac OS X and iOS software. People at Apimac aim to put into users hands applications which they can use in a way they do things every day. This is the result of software design that employs a scientific approach derived from ethnography. It is completely different from the classic reductionist approach which attempts to identify the basic behavior of the human being in his interaction with the environment (a thing which often diverts software designers from the end user’s needs). Jaikoz uses MusicBrainz, an online database of over eleven million songs and Discogs another database of over 3.5 million releases. 1 What’s the most unique, useful feature of your product?
Automatic tagging from multiple sources is fully integrated into Jaikoz. Jaikoz uses Musicbrainz AND Discogs AND Acoustid to ensure the best possible results.
2 Why did you create this app? or What need were you trying to satisfy?
When I started digitising my CD’s and old vinyl records I realised that you needed decent metadata to make your music easy to organise and play from a computer, and the applications available to do this required you to do most of it manually and any automated tagging was poorly thought out, I thought I could do better.
3 What is most interesting to you about being an indy developer
I used to develop software for corporations, and often this software would only have a lifespan of a couple of years until a new initiative came in. Now I write useful software that people actually want and discuss it directly with my customers, that is much more rewarding.
4 What features should a prospective buyer look into during a trial of your product?
Test Autocorrect on a representative sample of your music (not just one album) and see how many songs Jaikoz manages to match, most people find it matches about 85% of their songs. Colloquay is a nicely designed irc client that just works.
6 What’s your upgrade policy?
The customer should not have to pay again just to get bug fixes, improvements or compatability with the latest OS so I have a free updates for life policy. You could have purchased a license for the earliest version of Jaikoz released back in 2006 and that is still compatible with the latest version of Jaikoz released in February 2012.
7 What’s your support policy
I provide support via email and try to reply within 24 hours, or even better you can post questions on the support forums http://www.jthink.net/jaikozforum/forums/list.page , there are a number of active of Jaikoz users on the forums who are very helpful.
10 What are the answers to some common questions people have about your app before they buy?
Question:I’m worried that Jaikoz is going to incorrectly change my metadata Answer:Jaikoz doesnt actually make any changes until you select Save, so you can can review the changes first.
Question: Does Jaikoz update the songs in my iTunes library Answer:Yes it does although you can disable this if you want to.
