Who are we talking to?
I’m Steve Cronin, the developer of WhoPaste. I live in Austin, TX.
So why do you develop for the Mac?
I’ve been a Mac fan from the very beginning. In fact I owned one of the first 128K Macs way back in the day.
Now I wish I’d kept it but when I heard the rumors of the 512Mac I was convinced that the 128K would lose all its value…
I did Newton development for awhile and I DO have one of every Newton that was ever sold.
I was the Product Manager for an early database product for Macintosh: Omnis.
I have a family to support so after Mac faded in the late eighties and early nineties I went off on a long excursion into the Windows world. When I got my hands on a copy of Tiger (10.2) I knew the Mac would be coming back.
I’ve taken a lot risks in turning away from the dominant OS in corporate but I’m glad to be here.
Why did you develop WhoPaste?
I did a lot of departmental productivity applications. Over and over again we would have to re-solve the question “how do we get the customer list into the system?” WhoPaste builds on a lot of learning in the trenches.
I’m a sole developer I needed to pick a problem that I could solve AND an opportunity that I wouldn’t get run over by a large competitor.
I’ve noodled around with several approaches and WhoPaste generated some early interest. I’ve still got skunkworks that I might build out when I get a little time…
Hey – this seems like an opprtunity to let folks know that I just got WhoPaste for iPhone submitted to Apple!
I’m very happy with version 1 for iPhone!!!
What tools have a permanent home in your dock?
Well of course XCode and Interface Builder, those are every Mac and iPhone developers main development tools.
I use Skitch, Coda, Screenflow, Transmit, RapidWeaver, and Skim.
Tell us something fun about you.
I just went skydiving with my youngest daughter, Zoe.
As each of my kids, there are 3, turn 18 my gift to them has been to jump out of a plane together.
They’ve loved it! |
