Developer Interview
With Alex von Siebenthal – Social Media Manager for Memonic.
1 What’s the most unique, useful feature of your product?
What makes Memonic clearly superior to other solutions is on one hand, its powerful web clipper, offering various ways of capturing web content, organising the clippings and sharing it among your friends and co-workers. On the other hand, a seamless integration on all major platforms, be it on iPhone, Android, on Mac or on a Windows computer is available, ensuring cross-platform compatibility and synchronisation.
2 Why did you create this app? Or what need were you trying to satisfy?
One day, one of Memonic’s founders experienced an annoyance. When planning his trip to Australia, he had to copy and paste all his research on the trip into a word processor application and print it in order to be able to take it with him. With his friends he brainstormed how this could be solved more easily – and that was the hour of birth of Memonic.
3 What is most interesting to you about developing SW for the Mac platform?
We feel that Mac users are likely to attach importance to seamless integration and beautiful design and we worked hard on these points. It also challenges us to become better and surprise our users with new features and other nice things in our updates.
4 What features should a prospective buyer look into during a trial of your product?
Well, we encourage everyone to look into it and take one’s time to try all major features. People should not miss installing the powerful web clipper for their browser and the advanced organising and sharing features.
5 What are some interesting experiences you’ve had creating new versions of your software when OS is upgraded?
As we’ve only just release the first release of our App, we didn’t yet go through a major OS update.
But OSX Lion is here and we’re starting to test for it.
6 What’s your favorite Mac app out there from another developer? Why?
TextMate is still very popular at Memonic. Its successor TextMate2 has been in development almost as long as “Duke Nukem Forever” and made the number 5 spot in
2009′s Vaporware Awards. TextMate 1.5 is still the best text editor on the Mac.
7 What features would you like to add to your product that at this time seem improbable/impossible?
Nothing seems impossible right now. Its more about what we can get done with the resources available to us.
Right now we’re still focusing our efforts to bring all the functionalities of our website to the Mac client.
We believe Memonic already has the best Web Clipper out there, and we’d like to bring that experience to the desktop too.
Soon you should be able to clip content and take screenshots from all your documents and apps on your Mac.
8 What would you like a user to ask you?
Anything really. We’re always reachable via mail [email protected], Twitter (twitter.com/mymemonic) and Facebook (facebook.com/mymemonic)
We go at great length to answer all questions and any feedback or even criticism is very welcome.
9 What should I ask that I’m forgetting?
Well, this might be all. If anything else comes to your mind, you can always contact us.
10 What are the answers to some common questions people have about your app before they buy?
Everyone is invited to try Memonic for free and get an idea of what it is and what it does.
